Quick PSA: it's not Forrester, as in run Forrest, run. It's Forester, as in Forest service, since a ranger discovered the route for a possible engineered pass. (The original JMT had slight detours/work arounds for both Forester and Mather. They're steep because they were literally blasted out of granite cliffs.) RR, glad you caught it epic; the Sierra become a lifelong addiction for many.

The side trip to town via Kearsarge Pass is always a difficult decision - the out and back miles (and altitude) is a full day all by itself. But staying on the PCT, it's a long way (and three more passes) to the next exit.

Good hike crossing both Forester and Kearsarge in one day. Starting early makes the snow a not easier/safer, but that's still a long trek over two big passes. You did great at elevation, too, that's tough. I'm sorry to see Somewhere push ahead Solo, but she seems well-prepared (mountaineering gaiters, MSR XGK stove(?)) and will probably find other groups for river-crossing safety. A little rest and recharge probably felt good for your group after this piece of trail.

A piece of advice from experience... don't carry your boots in your hand when crossing a stream. If you fall, it's very likely you'll lose them to the flow and they will disappear very fast. Then you're f'ed. Either attach put them in the pack, or if the stream is small enough, throw them far across.
@jpsousa421 күн бұрын
I think on the pct you need to resist the idea of blue blazing being a thing. The pct goes over a lot of rugged terrain, and closed sections of trail for various reasons. You're still walking that connected footpath from Mexico to Canada, and you will almost certainly need to divert off the trail for this in the next couple of months.
