When I'm visiting a new place, I like to go on a ghost tour. They're usually conducted by local historians and provide fun stories about an area and its history. You walk around and get to know the architecture and geography in a way you wouldn't otherwise appreciate.

Honestly when I go to a new place I always try and find a decent coffee shop too!! I just love you can go there spend an hour or so reading, looking at photos on my camera or whatever (when I'm travelling I'll take my camera around with me, not generally on a normal day ahaha) and if you're by yourself, like I am sometimes just chilling having some me time people tend to ask where you're from, what you're up to etc etc so it's a good way to get tips for a new place. :)

also - look up "Bands In Town" whenever I visit a new city I look up concerts that are happening in the area. And I usually end up at a place that is between $10-$20 and totally worth it. Looove supporting local venues and seeing fun new bands.

When I travel, I always take my dogs to a dog park, and I check out the unusual boutiques and things in the downtown area. Also, I Google to find out if they have any cool, special movie houses or music venues. Also, most towns have some kind of calendaring service, whether it's an independent website, through the newspaper, or what have you. So I'll see if there are any cool festivals or happenings while I'm going to be there. Sometimes I'll take in a play at the community theater. I go to grocery stores if they're different chains than what I'm used to because I like to see what different kinds of brands get stocked. And, lastly, sometimes I like to go hang out at the mall. It's a strange feeling to be in a place that's so cookie-cutter and same as what I'm used to, and yet the regional feel of all the people walking around is very different. I love it! :D

If you guys ever make it down to Arkansas some time my husband and I can definitely give you some recommendations here in Hot Springs! There's not a whole lotta vegan options but we have a little coffee/tea shop, a raw food truck, and a mexican restaurant all pretty close to one another and its all downtown where the shops are and if you like hiking there are plenty of trail around and multiple places where you can fill up your water supplies for free that are connected to the underground hot springs!

preferably take a bike ride (rent), go do some running or maybe grab a bus/tram pass and go explore. Go until you find something interesting and go that way. There are so many backstreets, cozy, local places, that you never find unless you go there. I really enjoy trying to seek out the ordinary, or everyday places of a city. Its often there you get to experience the "non-mainstreamified" and "true" culture of a place. can be scary... but you'll never know where it leads you! urban exploring!
