Now I'm retired, and a dance professor and choreographer. I graduated in 2012, so Clara Cravey had just started to teach (not sure who your teachers are??) but OU really prepared me for the professional ballet world!!

I don't want to sound so ignorant but I've only danced in studios before. So, just wondering, what are the subjects that dance majors take? And what kind of exams do you take (since it's online.. is it like benesh notations or dance history or terminology or what)?

Idk for the US but i majored in Dance in France and yeah we had classes on benesh and Laban notations , dance sociology, dance history, mouvement analysis, work analysis, introduction to somatic methods etc like if u wanna learn how to dance that’s not the place but if you’re already a professional dancer or are inroled in some professional dance program or school it’s so helpful like it opens ur mind and teach u so much about your mind and body

@@dearordinarycaro oh that's awesome! I was also very excited when I got my first pair, I'd practise so hard that I'd get to the point where I felt like I didn't need the shoes. And I also went through that going to sleep in your pointes phase lol kids. Yeah, you're right, I could return to it but only as a recreational hobby and that's a bit bittersweet for me. I still have my last pair that I didn't get to wear down. Just as a keepsake for my passion. I hope you keep dancing, all the best!

@@johnnam6240 it’s a lot tbh. We’re you interested in more modern or classical oriented program? My key points were 1. The program isn’t funded well. They only do a full ballet every two years due to it, also costumes are pretty poor and more often then not we don’t get the actual Corbett stage, so we end up on small one. 2. For a supposedly “classical ballet” oriented program, it’s not. It’s run by a ex modern teacher who doesn’t know much about the classical aspect. 3. A lot of disorganization. You won’t know what’s happening till it happens, period. I would say they have some fricking amazing staff tho. Qi Jiang, principal from ballet west, Deirdre Carberry, Principal ABT and Cincy ballet, (also danced with barishnikov), Isabelle Elefson from Brazil’s national ballet, Tricia Sunbeck principal from cincy balley.

@@johnnam6240 my personal feel I got was a toxic environment. I realize a lot of places can be like that, but it can be bad there. A lot of local studios suggest their students don’t go there, because in general a lot of people don’t do well, or have careers after.

I am 17 and i danced since i was 2 years old and i stopped when i was like 14 or 15 ish, i’ve never done ballet in point shoes i only did ballet from like 2yrs old to like 8 or so years old but i did other dance styles the other years, i want to try ballet again but i’m terrified that i will fail and like be too rusty to actually be good. idk what to doooo 😀

I say go for it! You can always start out slow and pace yourself. Ballet is far from easy so be kind to yourself when you first start, it takes time but is super rewarding. You got this!

My University in Brazil has connections with with OU so I think I should give it a try… The thing is that even though I’m a ballet student my major in college is currently architecture (bc there isn’t dance/ ballet major in my city campus) then I don’t know if they both (my uni and OU) would accept me to change my major ahahh (laughing to hide the fear lol)!!
