I'm dad of a 2018 grad who ran XC all four years at the AFA. Great video, Sam, & I'll tell you what you already know......WAY TO DO THE WORK!! Here's hoping & praying you have a season that fully lives up to the amazing potential we all know you have. 4x All American and _________ in 2022/23? Time will soon tell.

I remember my 4 degree year going for a 5 mile run on the roads at the Academy only to be smoked by the XC team on their run of 13 miles. I almost quit running that day. These cadet-athletes are amazing.
@AlbertKundratАй бұрын
What do You mean by "My 4 degree year"? What does it mean to be "smoked by the XC team?. I just don't comprehend either. My name is "A.S.K.": "Albert S. Kundrat", so it is natural for me to uniquely "ASK" both Questions to You!

Sam, good video. Brings back memories. It’s hilarious to see that cadets never change. The best food in CSprings is the biggest Burrito you can find -ha! My USAFA days were magical, looking back, but didn’t always seem like it. After flying the F-16 and retiring in 2008, I wouldn’t change a thing. Now I consult to the aircraft industry, a boring ass job like everyone else. Best of luck and enjoy the things most will never experience.

I never thought of trying to do USAFA or college when I was in HS, no matter. I wasn't college material anyway and no way would I have gotten good SAT' scores so I served as enlisted in the USAF. It was a great time. The USAFA looks like an awesome school to attend, I know it's not easy and has a big course load but it looks like, after the "doolie" year it's a "normal" college w/higher course load w/mandatory academics to deal with.

I’m an ‘88 grad. I was also in CAP in HS. I could see where home schooling could be more a challenge to get in front of an admissions liaison officer. Reach out to admissions and get the name of an LO in your area. Your biggest hurdle will probably be the Congressional nomination. No matter how old you are, reach out to your local congressman asap. Your senators also can nominate you, but realistically they will be a long shot.

Great video. Can you explain why some cadets wear fatigues or the flight suit and blue cap during the day when most are wearing the usual blue slacks and short sleeve shirt?
@chris_floyd1 Жыл бұрын
There will always be a standardized uniform for the day, however certain additional duties may warrant a different uniform wear. i.e. working in the lab wearing OCPs or glider instructors wearing flight suits.

any advice for a Academy Cadet wannabe??
@FFE-js2zp2 жыл бұрын
Reach out to your congressman now. The younger you are, the better. Let them know your interested and build a chain of correspondence with them you can point to when the time for your nomination interview comes.
@LukeMcCastlain Жыл бұрын
You’ll be glad to know I took that advice but kind of on accident😂 I was volunteering at sun n fun (I was super fortunate, I got selected to be on blue angels support) but at the moment I had nothing to do. I was in a building, watching an f35 do it’s thing through the window, and all of a sudden this older gentleman walks up behind me and says “I heard you want to go to the academy” I had been telling everyone that was anyone that I wanted to attend a service academy, so it didn’t surprise me that he knew, so I replied yes. We talked for awhile and he told me he was an f14 pilot (I happened to have a top gun shirt on that day) and we joked around. Finally he asks “do you know who your congressman is? For your district?” And I said yes Scott Franklin. And then he goes “oh, we’ll I’m Scott Franklin!” One of the coolest moments of my life. After that we talked about me getting a nomination in the future and what he looks for in applicants.

I thought AF Academy requires more military drilling and them yelling at you. Also, you seem to have your own car there and can drive off campus. Is that because you are a senior? I"m guessing you are a senior as you said, you are putting in 4 years. In any case, thanks for your service, and I wish you well with your running events.
