I taught a ballet class for 3-6. When I was teaching my 6 year olds we were “jumping over the river” - a piece of blue fabric on the ground to practice leaps. Well I’m the middle of that activity I had a little girl pee mid jump and that’s when I knew I wasn’t cut out for it:

Hi Luna, My name is Anna. I don’t know if you remember me but we danced together at CDT for a really long time. I was just scrolling through my snap feed and I found the video you did about going through body dysmorphia. I remember always watching you dance and being so amazed at how good you were and how perfect your body was. I never in a million years would have guessed what you were going through. I’m glad you are doing better. Just know that a lot of girls from our studio looked up to you and still look up to you for your talent and grace. As a senior dance major in college, I can tell you that the dance world at large is much different than the environment we grew up in. People judge you for your talent and personality more than for your body. I really hope you find your way and continue to dance, because it’s worth it.

At the end when you’re talking about your voice being tired, I noticed that you had been “shouting” or speaking at a high volume. Something to work on would be projecting, like on a stage, because this can help prevent vocal damage. Also, steaming your voice with a steamer or even just hot showers is great for this. Avoid tea before you’re talking for long amounts of time as well!

I struggled giving classes at cadets when I became an instructor, something I was told then that has stuck: never speak while they are still talking, don’t disrespect yourself to raise your voice. It is such valuable advice and if time doesn’t permit for you to wait then speak in a low volume and those that are listening will benefit from your teaching. Try it, it might help you !!

Hey! just a little tip- with kids as young as the ones in your ballet class, try to do really simple exercises so they can work on their placement and technique. Also, at that young of an age high legs are not worth sacrificing their placement and are not very important!!
@Star3marie3044 жыл бұрын
So true
@desd1114 жыл бұрын
That's not "just a little tip"! It's so important to teach proper placement and technique in class. Just grabbing a child's leg and pushing it up higher into what looks like a developpe shows a complete lack of pedagogical background and skill. It's clearly beyond the child's ability, and what's the point of pushing a child's leg higher (especially when the kid is out of alignment)? Who cares if she can get her leg up high when she can't hold it on her own or can't do anything with it. This kind of "ballet teaching" gives real ballet teachers a bad name. Hope the kid finds a safer environment to learn ballet technique properly.
