I joined the Army in 1978 and I will say today y'all got it good later I joined the Army National Guard used my GI bill to go to broadcasting school and became a Radio DJ while in the guard for 24 years but I wish I had retired from the Military instead the regular Army back then was not always fair to black soldiers, give it your best and get the most out of today's Army I wish you the best-uh-ra troop..

National guard is for the state. They have pretty good benefits. But if you wsnt tk move somewhere else, maybe see the world, National guard is not for you Do some research, see what you want to do and workout whenever you can. And if you're a junior or lower in high school from personal experience, become a wrestler, Because it will keep you in very fit shape. (Dyr)

National guard is cool but you get paid less and you don’t get the full army experience of being a 11b active you will get to travel get the full experience of being 11b and get paid more

DON'T join the Navy. I just got out. It's one of the worst branches next to the Marine corps. I'm going into my states national guard now as an 11B. Trust me, if you want to be a gunfighter or hold a combat MOS, join the Army. If you want a good technical skill, join the Air Force. If you want more of an explanation let me know.

@@Nomtom403 Because they are not only limited in funding, and duty stations, but overall career advancement opportunities, and special programs. On top of that living on a ship is fucking trash, and they're the very last to be called in any conflict. They just literally don't do anything but sit on a floating toilet in the middle of the ocean. The chiefs mess(E-7 - E-9) Are the most untrustworthy toxic individuals you will ever meet. You might find one or two really squared away guys, but the rest either won't give a shit about you or they'll go out of their way to fuck you over. There's a reason why so many sailors kill themselves. Hell, just look at what happened on the bush. 3 in one week. Almost everyone I've known that's passed away in the 4 years I was in, didn't die in gunfight, they fucking killed themselves. That alone should say enough. There's a reason so many people go from the Navy to the Army, but never the other way around. If you join the Army however, you can always put in a packet to fly as a warrant, or maybe go 160th SOAR(I'd switch your MOS to 15U or T honestly), Special Forces etc. Or you can reclass. The Army overall has better opportunities. It's also too easy to get out and go Guard or reserves if you really wanted to go to school and be home but still serve. Believe me, if I could go back to the day I graduated high school, I'd go Army 11X opt. 40 in a fucking heartbeat. No hesitation. Don't listen to your family. They don't know what they're talking about. The only thing is, I'd see if you could be a Blackhawk or Chinook repairer. That way you have the opportunity to fly and be a crew chief.
