It's email Monday again! On Mondays, I will answer email questions all about medical school, residency, studying, staying motivated as a pre-med, and more. This video goes through a typical day in the life of a medical resident in the hospital. Remember that this is just my experience and every residency program will be a little bit different.

Such an inspirational video. Every day in a resident's life is tough but we have to power through it. Four years and we enter a completely different life where hundreds of people will depend on us and look up to us to make their life healthier. Thank you for helping all of us get there!

Parceed doc make u healthier are u serious? Docs just write big pharma meds. My uncle got talked into talking statins by doc and his health went to hell - muscle waste symptoms and low vitamin D and lower testosterone. He went to hell but thanks doc. Tip stay away from doc if u want to be healthy all they can do if right meds. Only good ones are antibiotics

I'm doing my internship in Australia, found it so interesting to hear about your typical days! I'm on General Medicine at the moment and we have 42 patients on our service which is crazy that you have so few! On our quiet weeks we have 20 haha. Super interesting to hear :) Thanks Andrea for all your videos.

(And also talk about that some of us do the 6 year program and we have to do really well in high school in order to get into medical school?) thank u!!!

I worked at a few different teaching hospitals with residents in the ICU. I love having them around (most of the time). In the unit you'd develop a relationship with them, both being in the trenches trying to keep the patient alive and well. Sometimes when the attending would be picking on one in rounds I'd jump in and try to help them out. This one guy would always forget to order his AM labs the day before. I'd do it at 7am when I got there. During pre-rounds he'd nearly piss himself realizing no labs are in the chart and grand rounds start in an hour, I'd just smile and say I ordered them for you 30 mins ago, no worries.

I don't understand how you can work so much! How is that even aloud? In my country there are rules about working that much. For example: if you have two 12-hour shifts you must get the third day off! But there are shifts only in emergency departments. On other stations you just work 8 hours a day, but there are doctors who are on call for 24 hours. A bit complicated but it makes much more sense to me. I would die working so much. Lol. I mean, i just started my internship with the 40-hour a week schedule and that's already quite a lot. I will get used it probably, but I can't imagine working 12 hours every day!

Hey there! Are their any programs for adults who don't know rather medicine is for them or not? I don't have friends / family on the "inside" to really get a good look. The only thing that I have is this, youtube... I'm afraid to take the next step of going to college for pre medicine and going through the steps of med school, to find out that this wasn't anything that I wanted to do, and here I am in debt, and 8 years "gone" (not really gone, but what if I don't enjoy a career that I can get, etc etc). I've always been interested in Neuro / Cardio, but I'm just holding myself back... I'm 20 years old, and kinda getting frantic... Hope you can give me some words of encouragement, or something... Hi Andrea! I am going to be a college freshman this fall. What is your view/opinion on someone getting their nursing degree with the intention of becoming a doctor after?

+Sherelle Tetteh Which video? I saw her video about deciding later to be a doctor after you have a degree in nursing. My question is a tidbit different. I want to know is it wise to go into college to become a doctor, but majoring in nursing, on purpose, to get to med school.

ArabellaBunny This is such a hard question for me... I don't really think it's a great idea because it just doesn't seem worth it to me. I guess you would learn a lot of things that would be helpful as a physician, but nursing and medicine are really different, so I don't know how much it would help. If you want to work as a nurse before med school, then that is different. But I don't know why you would go through the challenges of nursing school (which I've heard is exhausting and hard) when you don't plan on being a nurse... I don't know!! I think it's also hard for me to answer because I don't think I would personally enjoy nursing- so... gosh it's so hard to answer your question!! If you think you would really like being a nurse, then maybe it would be a great pre-med path. I wish I knew more!
