Surely Madi will be able to present this a lot better than me LOL. But I will say I was going for my BSN at first, but a few things I've learned since then make me realize how glad I was to have gone the ADN route first. In my case, I, like Madi, did my prerequisites at uni going for my BSN. Then my anxiety and depression took me over. So when it was time to apply for the BSN program, I didn't get into that program. HOWEVER. I was offered a spot in the "bridge" RN to BSN program. A lot of community colleges and universities work together to do this I've come to find out (definitely worth looking into). Only downfall to that is typically you don't get your summer break to recuperate financially and mentally because your BSN classes are in the summer. In my case I ended up failing a course and fell out of the "sequence" so I ended up just soley going the ADN route which actually saved me THOUSANDS of dollars. Basically when you get your ADN and pass your NCLEX, most big hospitals in your area will offer you tuition reimbursement for going back for your BSN. And whatever is left over, obviously you can pay on your own schedule because you're working as a nurse. Definitely a lot easier than trying to pay for uni costs on a CNA or PCT salary (trust me I know). In general definitely look at cost per semester, accreditation, class sizes, environment, like are the teachers really for your success or is it a bullying type of environment, and student assistance opportunities like for my school students with hardship could receive grants and food packages. Sorry it's wordy I just wanted to throw that out there.
