So how far down did they have to drill to reach adequate water? Did they tell you what flow-rate to expect? How many gallons per minute? Both your family and Justin Rhodes family give their chickens soaked feed. I like it. Josh at 13. Seems like all of the kids have very distinct personalities. I suggest that Josh is the Great Communicator. Great in front of the camera, delivering goodwill, personality and charm. Very gracious teaching his siblings, too. If you had a farmers' market booth, I bet Josh would be great at sales. People would love to come back and see him each week. Great genuine smile with a twinkle in his eye - like the rest of the Smyths.

Joshy I had the same job as you. I had to take care of our chickens and collect the eggs. Funny thing tnough, I refused to eat them. I wanted "real eggs from the store", so after I would go back outside my aunt would put them in old egg cartons she had saved and tell me she got my eggs at the store! Hahaha!! We also had a rooster that would attack me every day when I went out!

A lesson on soil biology should be on the menu soon. A chart of how particle size is related to fertility. Go look at a road cut and discover the layers of strata. What is the ratio of compostable material (discuss the scientific definition of organic) to inorganic materials. When they get older you can discuss the politics of money and how it effects the value of soil and how much care we take of our environment. I think you could interest most of your kids in a look at the makeup of your own garden soil compared to pasture soil. Ill look for a page about the experiment and send you a link

The "square food" was just salmon patties . . . canned wild caught salmon, an egg, and some seasonings (sea salt, onion granules, parsley, and dill). I just fry it all as a huge patty and then cut/flip little squares with a spatula. Super easy!🙂

We are mostly grain free so the pancakes are made with equal amounts of tapioca and almond flours, a bit of coconut flour, and about 10 eggs (for our family). I don't have a recipe . . . just dump things in and hope for the best . . . a little salt, a dash of baking soda, big drizzle of honey and enough water to make it into pancake batter. With that many eggs, you can take or leave the fat, and we add plenty of butter on top. Sometimes I add berry powder or vanilla or cocoa powder or best of all, dark chocolate chips!🙂

Can’t wait to get some almond flour. I have coconut flour and we have chickens so the eggs are no problem. There are only 2 of us so I will have to experiment.
