I loved this video. I was having a hard time finding a psych uni vlog that showed the assignments given and an insight into the expectations as well and in-depth as you did in this video, so I appreciate that. I love your personality. I'm really excited to get started with uni. Planning to major in psych too. Tiny criticism. Loved everything but the difference in the volume of your voice and the music is a lot, so I have to increase the volume to hear you, but then the music comes up in between the clips, and it's really loud. I'd personally appreciate it if you could adjust it for future videos. But yeah, thanks a lot for this vlog. New subscriber. :)

hey! i have a question, does studying psychology affect your personal relationships, like do you feel obligated to analyze people or "lecture" them in a way, cause im scared of doing that, im scared that thats going to be my thought process when im hanging out with someone,
@ShandericaC
@ShandericaC 3 жыл бұрын
Hey!! I've had some classmates, particularly those that I took abnormal psychology with, say that they can immediately tell if someone is experiencing some sort of mental health illness based on what the person is saying or how they're acting. So you may automatically analyze people in your mind or be able to point out what someone is experiencing, but I haven't had my classmates say they feel obligated to lecture people. I personally don't feel obligated to lecture anyone. When I'm taking with someone I do try to remember helpful tips I've learned in psych. courses regarding how to better respond to someone who is feeling sad, angry, depressed, or to anyone who just simply wants to talk. I've learned that listening is extremely important. Feeling scared that you might analyze people or lecture people is totally normal and okay. You want to support them as much as possible and not have them feel like you're only trying to give them solutions to their problem(s). You care about others feelings and you're not wanting to present yourself as someone who's only trying to diagnose and not listen. You'll be okay 💛 and the conversations you have with others will allow you to think more deeply before you respond...try not to overthink lol. Being that you asked this question shows that you value the feelings of others.😊 I hope this helps!

Do you have any tips for Highschool students and how they can prepare to major in Psych In University?
@ShandericaC
@ShandericaC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! One tip I recommend is to take a psychology course if your high school offers it so you will gain some knowledge about well-known concepts and well-known psychologists, scientists, theorists, etc. What specialty are you considering or what type of psychologist would you like to become (neuropsychologist, clinical psychologist, industrial psychologists, etc.)? I don't have any more tips at the moment. I have been doing research on what courses and programs I need to take to become a neuropsychologist. I recommend that when you know what type of psychologist you would like to become, research what courses you need to take, how many years you'll be in school, universities that offer programs for your specialty, etc. But, it's okay if you don't know what specialty you'll like to go into...as you go through your first four years of college you'll know...maybe you know now.💛 I hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

Hey!! It's awesome that you're wanting to become a psychiatrist. I was just reading about the different degrees ( Ph.D, Psy.D, and even one for social work..) and what exactly each degree focuses on. I'm taking Principles of Counseling again this term and now that I'm actually making time for the reading, it goes into great detail about counseling and how to be an effective counselor. It's really interesting. Thank you, I'm glad the video was helpful! Are you still in high school?

Do you have any helpful tips of how to figure out what type of psychology to major in? I’m interested In psychology but I’m not sure what each type entails.
@ShandericaC
@ShandericaC 2 жыл бұрын
Hi!! 💛 Honestly, what motivated me to want to study psychology was that my great grandmother has Alzheimer's. So, I found a psychology field that studied the brain and where I would likely be able to learn more about types of brain diseases. I did some searching and glanced at types of psychology fields and that's how I found biopsychology. I recommend doing that to gain more information about the types of fields of psychology. Later on I ended up wanting to study I/O psychology, and if I had actually looked at more psychology fields and took time to learn them, I would have known more about I/O psychology ahead of time. Definitely think about what you are passionate about and see if there are any psychology fields related to it. 😊 Also, talking with other psychology majors could potentially lead you to your desired field of study because I had never heard of I/O psychology until I heard another student mention it.

Hi, I wanted to ask if anyone who is a psychology major, are there different classes for different areas of psychology? Like if I want to be a child psychologist (not in a classroom setting) would I have to take a specific class on that, or would it be general?
@ShandericaC
@ShandericaC 2 жыл бұрын
Hey!! This is a great question, and I'm glad you asked! There are certain classes that are required for all psychology majors. But, if you wanted to become a child psychologist, there may be a class specifically for that field of study or you can take Developmental Psychology. Since I want to become an i/o psychologist, I still have to take the required courses but there is also a class about i/o psychology that I can take. I hope this answered your question. 💛

@ShandericaC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, omg this is great! I hope everything goes great on your journey to becoming a neuropsychologist! I am in psych BS, which is more researched based. You did not make the wrong decision by applying for BA because as long as you have a degree in psychology you will be preparing yourself to becoming a neuropsychologist. Also, if you plan on getting a masters then you will have plenty of time to gain experience in the research area. Honestly, as long as you have gained some sort of research before graduate school then you will be fine.😊Also, taking courses such as biology, chemistry, calculus, neuroscience, etc. will prepare you. What is like to be in psych BA? What are some of the courses you take?

This was very fun and helpful because I learned tips how I should approach people who are seeking mental health counseling. In Psychology of Learning, which is a class I'm currently taking, we're learning about Pavlovian Conditioning. In the chapter work sometimes we have to complete diagrams explaining what's the US, UR, NS, CS, and CR.
