The problem is dental students going to out-of-state dental schools or extremely expensive dental school programs, which cost more money. It would be smarter to go to a no-name dental school and have a smaller dental school student loan debt.

They can pick up Crohns lesions which is an auto immune disease. Also Cancer lesions. Some osteoporosis shots can cause jaw bone necrosis. Plus heart issues can be affected

Glad I never went into dentistry now. Dad has own dental practice and I was considering it. Did math and finance degree and Ivy league school and Masters in financial mathematics. Was making $600k before 32 and no debt by then . Plus saved a lot of time as was only 5 years of school. Did MSc in UK overseas only 1 year.

And No ones in it for the money😂 even though they can make 600k-1 mil a year in private practice, especially if they specialize. They can do complex surgeries, diagnose challenging diseases and disorders, prescribe, and more and you never will. That’s the main difference.

What dental procedures require in patient care? I'm surprised to hear a dentist needing to do morning rounds

In short: medically complex patients In depth: patients who need to be sedated with general anesthesia. Pts undergoing chemotherapy, etc. Pts with many diseases like liver disease, kidney failure, etc. Diseases that affect blood clotting which leads to excessive bleeding. Pts with recent history of stroke, heart attack, etc. Pts with blunt force trauma like a car accident in the middle of the night. etc

It’s a used Porsche Boxer like his runs $25-$30k and a brand new top of the line is $70k so him being a fellow which is basically he went to school to be a oral surgeon and has to pursue extra training/schooling for other oral or ent fields

I've been a dentist for 30 years and feel kinda sorry for the recent grads out there. Dentistry as a respected and lucrative profession has gotten so much worse than when I first started. Think about it. Who wants to come out of dental school nowadays hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loan debt to get a crummy, low-paying DSO job that's run like a sweat shop while working long hours, evenings, and on weekends? Over the last several years, more and more companies have cut healthcare benefits for their employees, esp. dental. People have less and less discretionary income these days. Meanwhile, dental insurance companies have barely increased reimbursement on most procedures, if at all. Over the years, I've seen so many dentists resort to committing insurance fraud to make more money. It's insane. I would never tell my kids to be dentists with the current state of the industry. There are so many easier and less expensive ways to make a living than dentistry. I would advise all you young dentists out there that unless you have a burning passion to continue doing dentistry, to get out while you're still young.

I graduated 2021 and I own a fee for service office with my wife (we bought an office in network with a ton of insurances) and we live very comfortably even with the hundreds of thousands in debt.. I would tell my kids to go into dentistry.

Crummy DSO salary? Bruh classmates of mine are making 300k their first year out of school working for DSOs. Yes they work you like crazy and will push you to do immoral things depending on the practice and the DSO, but they are paying you handsomely for a first year grad.

He is more than likely working on patients who can't speak for themselves. For example if you get in a really bad car accident and are unable to communicate. Doctors will make the best decision in your case if your Next of kin is unable to provide assistance. Hope this helps.

We don’t know the date of service. Also usually doctors/ in this case dentists will alter patient information to make the case HIPPA compliant. He may say 56 y/ male when in fact patient may be a 54 year old male or female. Doesn’t change clinical picture but protects patient ID

Not really, there are a list of patient identifiers which if not provided is sufficient for de identification. Fun fact: your insurance company and anyone dealing with billing ( clerks, secretarial , administrative staff etc ) are allowed under HIPAA to access any relevant part of your medical records. The 18 PHI identifiers : Patient names Geographical elements Dates related to the health or identity of individuals Telephone numbers Fax numbers Email addresses Social security numbers Medical record numbers Health insurance beneficiary numbers Account numbers Certificate/license numbers Vehicle identifiers Device attributes or serial numbers Digital identifiers, such as website URLs IP addresses Biometric elements, including finger, retinal, and voiceprints Photographs of a patient's face Other identifying numbers or codes
