It was a very informative video. It's true that Day of the Dead is becoming quite popular. I remember it wasn't like this when I was a child and actually I didn't know much about it. You're right that often we Mexican people don't appreciate our own culture until foreigners start to take an interest.

I never celebrated Dia de Muertos till my father passed away 5yrs ago and sadly since then more of our family members have passed. So my Altar has gotten larger 😢.

I totally agree with the huge impact that the James Bond & Coco movie had with the ‘day of the dead’ tradition in recent years. This cultural tradition has also been picking up interest and acknowledged in parts of the US (especially Northern California)after the 1980s aids epidemic. But the success of Coco just blew it up worldwide. The Mexico City Dia de Muertos parade is so big and wonderful I’m sure it will bring in a lot of tourists from everywhere and from the videos I’ve seen online it is a must-see 😁🇲🇽 As far as Janitcio /Patzcuaro, I heard that because of the pandemic they will be closed to tourists during this holiday unfortunately 🤷🏻‍♂️ Saludos 👍✌️

Glad you both are back from Georgia. My partner and I moved to CDMX in November 2016 (elect a clown; expect a circus) and have never looked back. We bought a condo on Ave Ámsterdam and have never felt so free and happy. We passed by Quentin Cafe this afternoon and they said they don’t sell coffee by the kilo. ¿? We look forward to running into you both in the hood…and Winnie too! Our pooches are Gracie and Georgie. P.S. They’ve never been happier either.

Great informational video. I have been in QRO for the past month and looking forward to getting back to CDMX tomorrow morning. I plan on celebrating in time for reflection, my own little alter, and to get out and see the wonderful displays of honor. This weekend was the 13th anniversary of my Golden Retriever's passing (she was 18.5 yrs old) and my father passed two yrs ago but Nov 2nd would have been his birthday. I love the opportunity to celebrate them and others in my family & life that have passed on.

Awesome video: informative, thoughtful, respectful and interesting! Thank you for the research and effort that you put into sharing Dia de Muertos - including your personal family experience. I was lucky to be in Puerto Vallarta in 2019 - it was wonderful to see the ofrendas set up around the municipal building. We also went to the panteon which was very busy. Finally, we visited Pitillal - and found a shop selling those miniature food plates - little clay plates with various meals on them. I wanted to try another city for 2020 - but, well, you know what happened. Maybe next year! When you get a chance - it would be great to see you visit your ancestral town. Many thanks!

This is a great guide, I’m Filipino American and I’m interested in celebrating the day of the dead. Mexican culture is so interesting. I understand how to celebrate the day of the dead. You can go to a cemetery or create an altar at home with pictures of loved ones or those who passed with flowers and food. Also, I’m watching Coco for the second time I love that movie.

Great Video. Great explanation. In LA, there is a 9 days of festivities at Olvera Street. Oct 25-Nov 2. This has been in place for many years. I’ve been there for blessing of the animals. Quite interesting what animals people bring.

You have it so so wrong at the end, is not like dia de muertos wasnt popular or waited for james bond, disney or foreigneirs to ingite....dia de muertos is not meant to be popular as other fiestas or a party, its a very personal matter of each house and its own death and grief.

Its not dia de muertos. Thats a colonial and skewed conception. Its day of our ancestors. "There is no death, only a change of worlds."- Ce Atl It is also offensive and an error to consider Micailhuitl (dia de muertos) a mix or a sincretization of native and the spanish invaders culture. Its root is completely native and foreign impositions that have altered it are not a true representation of native culture. Thats why Mexicans must learn the true decolonized version of their history so that they can practice their sacred traditions and ceremonies on their original dates and free from all foreign conceptiosn, impositions and catholic/christian symbols Micailhuitl is the sacred patrimony of our children. Foreigners are welcomed as spectators but the cultural appropiation of our people is unacceptable

Saludos
