The most dynamic, compelling, endlessly fascinating and talented rock band ever. Superb musicianship (the quality and control of Jim Morrison's vocals never ceased to amaze me, even today) and an intelligent, culturally & historically aware collective mentality put them in a class all their own. In the era of peace and love (which I hardly disparaged) they had the courage to weight their lyrics with honest expressions of dread, unnerving wonder and existential chaos, reflecting the times (the Vietnam War, the assassinations, the tumult of Chicago 1968, etc.) better than any of the other bands. They made the Rolling Stones sound provincially self-absorbed and petty.

What great music came out in the Summer of Love.They played all over NYC I was to young to go to the clubs .But I did hear them at Flushing Meadows.They had concerts at the NYState building. Just hanging out going a J and laying on the grass listening. You could get Orange Sunshine Acid for 1.00 a tab...lol Those where the days my friends ,I thought they would never end.

The Doors were amazing RIP Jim & Ray Jim while a lyrical genius and the archetype of a “front man rock star” he was also an underrated singer. He wasn’t technically amazing vocally but he had a unique voice and was able to intonate and manipulate his singing that added a lot of dynamics to The Doors’ songs. Same goes for Ray, Robby and John. They were all very good musicians and each brought a unique flavor to the mix that became the magic that was the Doors. Think about this too. Their career lasted about 5-6 years while Jim was alive. Think about how prolific they were in creating all that music and history within 5 years. That is insane. The legends include The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and I’d say Pink Floyd. The Doors must be included in that lineup and they’re the only American band of the bunch. They really had that special something.
@Dzanarika1
@Dzanarika1 3 жыл бұрын
Very well said about Jim's singing. So many people complain how Jim could not sing. Well, Jim was not your tipical "Celine Dion singer", but he had a voice from out of this world, so unique, so deep, mysteriously haunting, plus his lyrics. He was the original deal, nobody can top that off. I think that many people were just intimidated by Jim as a person for so many reasons.
@brucemarshall3446

@@Dzanarika1 There is an excellent interview on YT where Densmore dissects Jim's singing abilities. He expertly explains the many reasons he was so great. He points out that he was just about the only rock singer who sang from his diaphragm.
@Dzanarika1
@Dzanarika1 3 жыл бұрын
@@brucemarshall3446 Jim was definitely pouring his soul out while singing. You can feel his emotions, and they were not fake at all. With all the other rock star singers, I do not feel their true emotions, because they are singing from their throats. Many of them are just screeching like girls. Jim was the real deal, and that is why he could not last long, because he was giving himself 110%. The guy became pure emotions on stage, and people felt that. He never acted, just became what he carried inside. And, he was an ocean of emotions.

The Doors! Musically they were very underated! I got to see them in a small theatre in Tampa, somewhere around 2005 or so. No,it's not the same without Morrison but Ian Astbury sang the lead vocals and it was tremendous. As musicians these guys were flawless that night I saw them. I only got 3/4 of The Doors but my god were they great musicians. One of the best concerts I've ever seen and I've seen all the legends. I suggest anyone who doesn't have it to get The Doors VH-1 storytellers DVD. It's the 3 remaining Doors at the time with several great singers tackling different Doors songs with Ray,Robbie and John backing them. Ian Astbury, Perry Farrell and Eddie Vedder to name some of the singers. Trust me it's worth buying the DVD! The guys were that great musically!!
