Hi Debbie. I bought the milk pot for our van, which is still tucked away for the winter. But I have been using it at home and I love it. At first I wasn’t sure but I use it for all kinds of things now including as a kettle and tea pot. Thanks for the tips that you provide.

FSTM,Hello,gee I have NOT hiked in many moons, but some things you carry I also did, now this is REALLY different, I still have an EXPIRED CLASS TUBE WITH CAT GUT FO STITCHING YOU UP, I JAMAICA, in boarding school, being a volcanic island there were VERY SHARP ROCKS so back in the mid 50s were were out and about, this boy fell, and tore his side out, so I STICHED HIM UP, so when we got back,we went to the school medical facility,nurse said fine he will not need to go to hospital , I had a large medical kit, I also hat the largest sewing kit,, so deals were made, I sew buttons, I DOT YOUR BREAD, OR SOMETHING FOR 2 WEEKS ,IF YOU HAD MISSING BUTTONS for inspection,there was hell to pay, that’s how things worked. , I like your assortment of backpacks, those days all we had was your BOY SCOUT BACK PACK,CALLED A HAVERSACK.,, HEAVY CANVAS, ,,,TAKE CARE STAY WELL 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Howdy from the North Coast. Good refresher video on 10 essentials. Since we sold our house 4 years ago I shed my pack and shoes for any occasion problem. You’d be amazed by how well shoes and boots sell on eBay! The only daypack I have now is a Sierra Club thank-you gift. My Debby prefers the lightweight packs that can fold into its own pocket. For shelter for 50 years I carry a mylar emergency blanket. My current boots are Merrill 2s. Happy Trails🥾

Useful and important info. Recently bought a day pack for trip to Barcelona. City walking (a LOT of walking) and my choice was fine. The right pack for the type of walk makes a big difference. My army ruck in the 70's left a lot to be desired after days in the field.

A good list for mild climate hiking. I would upgrade the knife to a Leatherman Squirt PS4 multi-tool, 2.1oz. You will use the extra functionalities.

We are not changing our plans. Fuel will always be a wild card as it is a finite resource and there are so many reasons for its volatility. We can hope the current situation eases but we will move forward and try to lower costs with more dispersed/free/cheaper camping spots. We are currently home as John had a health scare but we are still hoping to hit the road again in May.

Thanks for the video! I like the first aid tape! I have used this for myself and given to others on the trail. I also carry a bandana and a space blanket, that I have given to others on the trail that were awaiting rescue because of broken bones.....they were going to be there awhile. The Inreach mini......is worth the money! Bee Stings can be a serious issue! The benadryl is a must have. One last item I carry a Gu for quick energy.

Great video as I start on my solo adventures & hiking. I tried merell hiking. I too have 9.5’ & narrow but with running, bunions came back. For the El Camino I switched to a Merrill off road RUNNING shoe. It has lots of tread & breathable mesh top with rubber toe box. Super light & allows foot to air. Also COSTCO has lightweight long sleeve mesh shirts. And last year, for women. Love them. I use them when it’s warm for most things outdoor. Even working out outside. And I live in south Florida! They actually feel cool on - dry fit. And, if there’s a breeze, the mesh allows the air through. Winter Nuwool long sleeves. Thanks again. Love your videos!

great post as always. I use to get amazing foot blisters until I started coating my feet with vaseline. I've since upgraded to a less greasy solution that works great called trail toes from amazon. no more mole skin, etc.

If you want something that will hold your sleeves up, you can get a small roll on tube from Amazon called “It stays”. One tube lasts forever...you don’t roll it all the way around, I use it on the outside of my arm (about 1/3 to halfway around), then just pull your short sleeve over the top. I had cancer and developed lymphedema from the treatments. My sleeve is much heavier than yours, but it works really well. Thanks for this great list! I had wondered what all you took with you on a hike. I’m especially glad you take the emergency signal with you...I have worried about you going on such long hikes alone. Hi Debbie - great video as usual! I picked up an Osprey Day Pack b/c I realized that we needed more than just a hip pack to store jackets (we always start out with more clothing than we need and take it off as we go!) but an added benefit is now I can carry more of the 10 Essentials. Thank you for going through them. Next purchase will be trekking poles. Strongly considering the InReach Mini 2 but yikes on the price tag. Will probably do it b/c of a planned trip to Yellowstone and Glacier in June. A piece that isn't obvious about the satellite communication devices is the "service plan(s)" - you need one to make the thing work! That's also an added cost. I know - it's good insurance that you hope you never really need :) Finally picking up our Travato tomorrow! Heading toward 70 degree weather - yay! Best to you! Christine, John & Marco

If you don't like headlamps that strap to your forehead, the head lamp that clips to your hat visor works really well. They are also small enough to carry in your pocket & use as a flashlight. "Ultra Bright Mini Hands Free Cree LED Clip on Cap Light" only $11 on Amazon, love this light.

Having been involved in the van life for nearly five years, we have followed most of the KZbin videos, yours included. My wife and I often comment on how impressed we are with your improvement from one video to the next. Being a bit of an amateur private youtuber myself, I am wondering what your personal opinion on Casey's class. I'm crazy about survival (too many TV shows and books?), here are a few comments: You can use a small packable poncho or emergency blanket (those foil things) for either added warmth or shelter and both take up very little room. Have you attempted starting a fire with that flint starter tool? We tried ours and gave up. We always carry a lighter. Thanks for the good info. I like the duct tape around the pole idea.

Since my hikes are 2-4-hour-long strolls, I only have a small backpack: Almost like yours, but green and size 18 (= 18 liters content). It's a Deuter, too! I know, you try to be perfect, so please let me correct your pronunciation of Deuter [ = doyter]. It's a German company, founded in 1898, located near Augsburg in Bavaria, BUT production lines are in Vietnam.
