I feel so bad for Cat. Knowing the trial happened not too long after the murders, makes it even worse. She had so many plans, hopes, and dreams of a beautiful life with Chandler which she’s also mourning. What a betrayal for him to make her an unwitting accomplice to the clean up and then to leave pieces of his parents on her family’s property. It felt like he was possibly trying to implicate her family; especially considering he emphasizes that cat’s family didn’t like his parents during his interrogation.

I can't imagine he'd have a higher chance of acquittal by pleading guilty. And if they're offering him a plea deal with nothing better than 50+ years before a shot at parole - why not take a chance when you have nothing to lose, and only upside? I have a real problem lately with how the term 'hearsay' has been butchered from its original meaning decades ago to whatever it is now. Hearsay, from what I recall, was any statement a person didn't hear firsthand, that was passed to them by a third party. If someone spoke directly to you, it was NOT considered hearsay. Also, if a witness recounted 'verbatim' statements that someone said to them it was okay as long as it was accurate, usually with shorter statements like 'OH NO' or something that would be easily recalled. Otherwise, I thought it was fine for witnesses to give 'descriptive' statements, ie. the 'gist' of a conversation, to avoid hearsay issues. Nowadays, even one-to-one conversations with witnesses from memory appear to be cut off by lawyers. It really annoys me.
@esindirik44472 күн бұрын
I've never seen any of these lawyers using the hearsay objection in inappropriate times. I don't know what the "original" meaning is in everyday language, but in law, hearsay applies to every statement from the witness where they are conveying what someone else said, BUT there are exceptions. For instance, Chandler's statements are an exception to the hearsay rule because they're the statements of the party opponent (i.e., accused by the state). I think the shorter statements you're talking about are examples of another hearsay exception, statements made by another person conveyed by the witness to show the effect that they had on the witness, not for the truth of the matter; that is, to explain and give context to what the witness did or did not do next. There're lots of other exception to hearsay, but none that was objected here were exception cases. Of course none of the witnesses should be able to talk about what other people said unless it applies to the exception cases, otherwise that would be a mess simply because it is not cross-examinable, so it's not fair. It's not appropriate for a court. Both the defense and the state have subpoena powers, they can absolutely bring whoever they want to bring for them to talk about whatever they said; there is absolutely no point in letting a person testify to someone else's statements.
@LlamaLlamaMamaJamaac12 сағат бұрын
I watch some of those family court Zoom hearings with commentary channels, and I’ve seen parents’ lawyers object for hearsay when a CPS investigator mention the parent’s LAB RESULTS. Like “Mom’s UA was positive for ‘math’ and ‘Mary Jane’.” “Objection, heresay”

Cathryn and her mother have an absolute heart of gold. It sickens me to hear the way he spoke and treated her, long before all this came about. A large percentage of the population are simply rotten from the start. And while they probably don’t realize the damage they're doing, those who do realize will certainly never care enough to weed themselves out, or simply seek help. I know there aren't many 'Chandlers' out there, but few people could ever recover from a relationship filled with lies or cheating etc. I pray that she's able to trust again.

Good observation. She does not…two months ahead of trial, the jail calls were all “I love you’s” and “I miss you’s”. Just awful. Listen to their jail calls.

@@Royalblue-em7np there is probably a very unhealthy trauma bond between them. She really needs some psychiatric help.

From what I understand, during the jail calls (nauseating) she believes he is innocent, she and her mother. She is still in his web of manipulation and lies. The DA only shares the ALL evidence with her the week before she takes the stand. Her world has blown up right before we see her here.

@@kateelisabeth4140 I have been pretty amazed at some people suggesting this young woman was complicit with the actual murders. It’s sad. She was in love with him and clearly was blinded by that and defended him til the trial. And then during trial all the evidence is presented and she finally had to face the truth. She’ll probably be in therapy for years and all her future relationships will be blighted by this. Empathy and compassion are very important for anyone who is interested in true crime. To understand that the victims are not just the poor souls murdered.

I'm not sure if I missed it being stated, but how many people are on this jury? It's my 1st time seeing this case. I wish we could bing watch all the days right now. 😆

Rottweiler Investigations. Jail calls between Cat and the monster. @ 24:55 talking about fixing her hair for trail, he talks about it being live-streamed, and she agrees about wearing a mask “hell ya” I’m gonna wear a mask. Maybe buy a wig so nobody recognizes me” …she wears his sweater every night. Monster: No don’t wish Mitch a happy thanksgiving for me because Mitch “is all for putting me away”

She's not as innocent as people want her to be. Yes, she was young and naive but come on. He fed her all these lies this whole time and she never questioned anything?

@@mmk1111 I agree. She had me fooled watching the last few days, until someone mentioned these calls and I listened. I feel bad for her poor mom unless she’s a fan as well.

@@Royalblue-em7npI remember watching this trial for the first time and I felt so bad for her. But then I found the interrogation videos and then I listened to the phone calls and WOW

Was trial the first time she was privy to all of the evidence? Would the detectives have disclosed all the facts about how many lies he had told before trial to her? I need to go back and watch her police interviews. Such a disconnect between the jail phone calls and her demeanor on the stand here.
