Hey Horse Lovers! This weekend I went to a horse sale with about 180 Horses here in Michigan. This auction was clean, well-organized, and the sellers seemed decent. I was impressed by the auction house and how they called issues out in the ring, brought horses through, and how the facilities were well maintained. The catalog they handed out also listed specifics about each horse. These horses were in pretty good condition and prices were fair. In this video I will talk about what I am looking for in a potential auction horse purchase and also share some educational tips when it comes to browsing horse auctions. Miss Shae, I am 69 and don't want to say anything that might be considered offensive by today's standards. I admire you greatly. Your videos are entertaining and instructive. You are so feminine yet a very thorough and demanding business person. You are knowledgeable and open to learning new things. You keep your ego in check whereas many men would not be able to do that. You are kind and decent yet nobody's fool. I think that you are a good role model for young women and boys. You love and nurture your horses, getting the most out of each one according to their abilities. From the videos, it is apparent to me that your husband respects and deeply loves you. I admire you greatly and I believe your hubby is one lucky guy. Your students seem to be almost exclusively young women and girls. I am not saying this as a criticism. I wonder if horsemanship is perceived by young men/boys as a girly pursuit. They should watch a few John Wayne movies. Thank you for the entertainment and education.

The drafrhorses are so cute and make me think of Fletcher Farms Amarillo, LLC. They save drafts from slaugther and give the horses there wel derserved retirement and al the love and caring and freedom. You have the same passion for horses💗

I am so grateful you take us on your travels. I learn good things every time. My only problem with this and several other auctions was the horses having their heads tied up. If we had to stand for any length of time with our heads confined we would ache. Maybe horses are different but I doubt it. You can't fix the situation. Only the auction companies could and chatting them up about it would only get you banned from the auctions. The tie situation may get the horse into a new home sooner because we can make eye contact. I hope for the best for all of them.

Hi I have a registered American quarter horse, but I’m having him checked because I’m sure he is a first generation American warm blood. He is 16 ,2 hands tall. E was used for Barrel racing and I noticed that he didn’t like that. The person who had him didn’t have time for him , and he would rear up constantly. I have bought him for $37000,00 I took him to my friends farm and I turned him out for 2 year’s. But in the 2 year’s Coronavirus was here and I started working him on the lunge line and worked him on ground works and trot polls. I noticed that he loved it , I started to layout some cross rail’s and he started to go over them freely, I didn’t pushed him over it he just did it. And I was amazed with him. But I have only one problem! He don’t like men riding him he goes all bronco on them . He has warm blood spook’s but not to bad. I love him but I need to move him along. Between two jobs and setting up a business I don’t have much time for him.

My pony is blind in one eye. She went blind as a foal, so she has ten years of life experience in how to compensate. I loved the Belgian Standardbred cross.

Why Are Draft Horses Slaughtered? We spoke with Christine about the specific risk facing draft horses when they are sent to auction. “Draft horses, pound for pound, are fleshier and more lucrative for sale at slaughter,” she explained. “Literally, you get more ‘bang for your buck.’” Another reason draft horses are especially at risk is the high concentration of Amish populations within easy transport of Canada where slaughter occurs. “Since many of their communities are clustered in the Northeast coast and in Ohio, most of their cast-off or spent work horses are funneled into New Holland (PA) and Sugar Creek (OH) auctions, which are direct pipelines to slaughter.” When the staff of Gentle Giants attends these auctions, they look for the horses that are most at risk of being purchased by meat buyers. Exported horse meat brings $14 to $18 a pound, so the bids from meat buyers can be pretty high for draft horses who can easily be fattened up for profit. They are not able to save all of the horses and any horse given a yellow USDA export tag is beyond help, Does anyone have a opinion on this issue?

This is the saddest issue in the horse community. I would save them all. After they use them up, they go to the kill pen. Governments should subsidize more non-profits to open horse-welfare sanctuaries to retire ALL these senior horses for the rest of their lives. Jolanda Adelaar in Belgium did a vlog on Spain's import of Argentinian horse meat; she showed the freezer locker packed to the gill, and I didn't sleep that night. Thank you for bravely and compassionately spotlighting this horrible treatment of beautiful equines.

That would be nice but I truly don’t want that right now. If that mare was there I may have taken the opportunity but only because she is my favorite breed and was bred to basically my second favorite breed. Plus, I need another lesson type for my program and that would take up more space plus the foal.

Hi Shae. I was going to ask you about the high cross tying in one of your last auction runs. I get that they want you to see the horse, but that seems a bit cruel. They tie them up high like that for safety reasons, to make sure no horses get tangled up in the ties.
