Day trip to the most beautiful villages in France/ Secret of a medieval village with a sweet scent

This video is the second part of our summer holiday vlog spent in Burgundy. We visited the village of Flavigny-sur-Oserain, one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Flavigny-sur-Ozerain is a small village with a medieval atmosphere. It's so quiet that the only sound you can hear is the occasional bell of church, and a walk through the village is like stepping back in time. The village has been used as a filming location for the movie "Chocolat", starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp.
After a short walk around the village, we went to the church of Saint Genest, built in the centre of the village in a magnificent Gothic style. You will be amazed and impressed by the explanations given by the guide, the sculptures from the 15th century and the beautiful stained glass windows.
Then we visited “Anis de Flavigny”, the famous candy maker of the village. Thankfully, the CEO herself showed us around the abbey's crypt and the Anis Museum. Many of you may have heard of their candies, which are exported all over the world as well as to Japan, thanks to their distinctive oval packaging with beautiful illustrations. The secrets and meanings behind the illustrations on these tins, as well as the history of how the candies came to be, are all carefully explained, so we're sure you'll find something new and interesting!

What a lovely old stone village. It was very quiet with no people about. When you entered the old church and I saw the stained glass, I realized that was the only color we had seen up until then as everything was just the color of the stone. The candy factory at least was colorful. It looks like a lot of people live there. I wonder what they do for a living. I can't help but wonder what their houses look like inside. I think it's interesting that the guides speak to you in English, kind of assuming that you don't speak French but since you are studying it, I assume you do. Perhaps they speak a different dialect there. Anyway, it was lovely to see such an old town.

I'm originally from Australia now living in Canada for over 30 yrs. I went to London and Paris in 2006 and that was what I loved about both places, the antiquity, it was like going back in time. So many amazing ancient buildings and sculptures, etc. It's a completely different feeling than living in a Western country that is not that old in it's history. I loved those cities so much, I would love to go again one day.

I did not know the anise candies were from this village. I was given them as a present by a friend who was coming back from a tour of France many years ago. I love the anise candies with their beautiful tins - must go get them myself some day. Thanks for the lovely video.

By the way, I read the other day that during the French revolution there was a law that stated that all religious statues and those that represented kings and queens had to be decapitated..
