Actually, he put the sticks around the nest so the cuckoo couldn’t push the other chicks out. He put the others back in the couple of times the cuckoo did evict them. The cuckoo spent so much time pushing, that it didn’t eat enough, the other chicks immediately beg when the adults bring food, the cuckoo just tries to push. The cuckoo will probably die when the chicks fledge and leave the nest. The adults will be feeding their fledglings and will abandon the cuckoo..
