One of the reasons this album works is because Day6 has strong vocalists. Like ALL of them. This album is so demanding on vocals I don't think they would've been able to pull this off otherwise.

I forget this sometimes because they play the instruments so well! I just can't imagine anyone else but them to perform their songs. MyDay☆

100% agree. DAY6 songs would be so much duller if their vocalist weren't so unique from each other. One of the reasons why I love the band so much is how varied their vocalists are. Several members have such appealing timbres that makes certain parts of songs even more impactful. Which is why I can't imagine any of the members being dispensable.

Book of Us: Entropy is a distinctive album because of the thematic flow. Although it is the most audibly diverse album of theirs, it shows careful deliberation in placement which makes for an especially effective listen. One of my critiques with DAY6 has been that their albums feel like a showcase of individually strong tracks which don't necessarily complement each other too well. The album is split in part A (tracks 1-6) and B (7-11); A represents falling in love, while B represents falling out of love. We start with Deep in Love highlighting the beginning of something deeper. Sweet Chaos describes how one's life gets thrown out of balance after falling in love. Emergency captures the visceral symptoms and breathlessness one feels whenever you approach their love. Rescue Me describes how that person is essential to saving one in a cruel world. 365247 is about the sensual side of love. These are 5 energetic tracks coloring love's passion, so About Now's mellowness and simplicity comes as a much needed breather. It highlights the quieter routine of an established love. But this is where the album starts turning, because the lyrics emphasize distance: are you doing alright, when I'm not there? Side B begins off Ouch, which captures how one gets hurt from tensions and arguments in a relationship. Not Fine expresses the anxiety that their love is deteriorating. Stop Talking is about when one is told from others that the relationship is toxic, but they don't want to hear it. Not Mine couples the meaning of Deep in Love and Not Fine together: that one is deep in love, but it's one sided. Like a Flowing Wind is a spiritual successor to You Were Beautiful or Letting Go: reminiscing on a now gone relationship as if a breeze flowing past your fingertips. Like About Now, it fills a more mellow space after 4 charged tracks capturing the painful part of love. Your point about it sounding the most familiarly DAY6 of the songs is intentional, since after basically a whole album of completely distinct sounds than what we're used to from the group, it helps overcome a bit of the overwhelming sentiment we might be feeling. As you can see, the songs effectively transition into capturing the roller-coaster which is love. Entropy is a scientific concept that describes the tendency of stable things to go into disorder. Gravity is a scientific concept describing two forces being pulled together. In their previous album, Time of Our Life was the thematic link to gravity, but BOU:G as a whole was introspective. In BOU:E, not only does Sweet Chaos serve as the thematic link to love as an entropic force (going from stability to disability), but the whole album does. I am in agreement with your overall point. They've outdone themselves and released a masterpiece. How they managed to do so only a 100 days after their last comeback, and while on an active world tour...it's a testament to their incredible talent. Their vocals were stunning, even more so than usual. There were so many interesting musical choices made in nearly every song that I'm discovering more depth on further listens. Thank you, thank you, thank you DAY6!

YoungK really is a top vocalist, not just in kpop. He’s pitch perfect, smooth vocal and emotional transition, wide octave range, no vibrato to be the super backup/harmony singer, clean diction when rapping.....he’s quite perfect really as a vocalist. We haven’t even counted his other musical and producing talents. I often thought about Freddie Mercury when I hear YoungK. YoungK is rather a reserve person, keen on observing than participating. If he’d abandon his reserve and go completely wild, he can sing Freddie’s hit songs credibly. Jae, Wonpil, and Sungjin all have distinctive tone and style when singing. If any of them would leave Day6, Day6 can survive and continue being Day6. However, if YoungK would be missing.....Day6 will lose the best vocal cushion, strongest backup, and the most versatile co-lead. He can literally sing everyone’s part, harmonize, and rap.

OUCH and About Now are I think my favorite bsides. Also, u probably figured this out, but about now is the song before ouch and i love it. About Now is very similar, or the same as a growing genre in the us....it's kind of branching off of indie music i think. But artists with that sound could be Rex Orange County, Cuco, Gus Dapperton. Good Morning....and lots more This album as a whole is superior tho. There's not a single day6 song I hate and this album brought so much. I have definitely added to my list of favorites. But, so far, nothing has beat I Need Somebody. Nonethelss, Like I mentioned, this is their best album hands down. Shoot Me: Youth pt 1 would then be second, even tho it's only an EP.

It left me confused but satisfied. Confused at the first half of the album trying to understand all these genres thrown at me. Satisfied at the ending because it was something I was finally familiar with. Just like as a whole, this album is just so big brain. They knew the reaction each note and each pause was gonna give so they made use of that to create a timeline for our emotions. I feel manipulated but that was goddamn amazing.

I'm not entirely sure there's a vocoder on About Now, but it's definitely mixed behind the raw vocals if it is there.
