I have two Walther Lothar barrels. Both started out looking like your groups and slowly improved... after I decided to stop cleaning the barrel. I just keep the chamber clean and pull a dry bore snake when finished. My groups dramatically improved. Then I got the bright idea on one of them to do a thorough clean. I'm back to ground zero. Mine seem to run better without cleaning. My bet is if you just stick with light cleaning , focusing on the chamber more than the bore, your groups will look more consistently like your last one. Great shooting, and great video.

Even hand papped barrels break in. I would run some high velocity rounds through there just to season the tube quicker, then clean it down to the steel and refoul it

I have a suggestion for you. Don't aim at the center dot to shoot for groups. Try shooting at the corner of the diamond. This gives you a smaller aim point. Remember the saying aim small miss small.I have shown many new shooters this and their groups reduced dramatically. Try it let me know the results

I have a CZ455. I put a Lilja 22 mag barrel on it. I 've zeroed it and hunted squirrels with it but I've never put it on target for groups. It was dead on for a squirrels head, though. I like the 50 gr Fed dimple points in it for hunting.

Watching the stock sit on the front bag looks slanted towards the right and your having to adjust each time by moving the stock back to your cheek. That could also be the reason for your shots shooting high/left. Just my observations and thoughts. Keep showing us what’s happening. Love watching you at the range.

Probably need to put some rounds through it to break it in. Your sling stud was resting on the pad in front - wonder if that may have affected your groups? What pull weight is the trigger?

Looked like the barrel just needs to be shot some to break it in fully. It's been a year... how's it shooting now? I have the 455 American switch-barrel, with 2 factory barrels (.22 LR, .17 HMR) plus a new on-the-way Lilja .17 HM2. The CZ barrels shoot up to the ammo... I get 1/2" barrels or better at 50 yards with the sporter taper barrels. The new Lilja barrel is going to be my squirrel hunting barrel... better range and accuracy than .22 LR, nowhere near as destructive as the HMR. Good video, BTW.

Still have sitting my 455 with a 22" LW-barrel sitting in my safe. Can´t shoot it because of the Virus, ranges are closed here. Asap as I can, I will shoot it for sure. What I´m curious about is, if you have eversince shot it on a 100? My home range only has 100m ranges, maybe 50m in a year or so. If you did, how did it show up at a 100? Actually they say, that the ideal barrel length for the 22lr is about 18", because the bullet doesn´t get any faster with longer barrels. Maybe that´s true, because most 22lr rounds are made for short pistol barrels as well as they are made for rifles. I wonder, if the bullets will fall backwards through the speed of sound on a 100 and will begin to tumble o.s. there.

Question, has the action been bedded, shoot 500 rounds through it then do the same test, try other ammo and find what it likes and again do the same test. Smallbore shooters using stainless barrels find great results as the barrel ages. Be sparing with the cleaning ,most 22s do well when left alone. My cents worth.

Match Extra may shoot 'OK' in that rifle but it groups 1.5'/100YDS while Lapua OSP, Center X, and RWS R50 shoot .63"/100YDS in both my CZ 457 MTR and Anschutz/Savage 50year old but well-maintained match rifle. Does the Lothar/Walther barrel have a match chamber?
@joed32644 жыл бұрын
It is my understanding that it has a Benz chamber. Not the best for a bolt gun. Okay for an automatic. BTW you can really improve your groups by modifying the Caldwell BR rest. Get rid of the front pad and use a square furniture pad on the bottom and use round pads on the "ears" to clamp against the stock. I use a Protektor rabbit ear hard bottom rear bag. My stock CZ 455 Varmint in a Boyds stock will group well under 1" at 100 yds on a windless day with a good Lot of Eley Team. Old Army Rangers can shoot also. Is the Wolf you used made by Lapua or the new Eley made?

I agree about the cold bore shots. The barrel probably needed some fouling shots after cleaning. I like to shoot 10 shot groups, you will see 7 & 8 shot clusters start to appear, the others are usually the shooter. You can compare with a target I shot with a Ruger 10/22 w/Green Mountain aftermarket barrel(skip ahead to 6:15) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXLZfYhunctmd80

Like your videos but I have a bit of constructive criticism on your bench technique. 1. you are a big guy and look really uncomfortable in that video. I suggest you drop $30 - 40 on an adjustable drummers stool then find a few videos on how to approach the rifle at the bench 2. from the angle of the video it looks like you have too much finger on the trigger. Try and keep the trigger halfway between the tip of the finger and the first joint. I would bet a six pack that those high right flyers will decrease 3. learn to shoot with both eyes open, it seems unnatural at first but every shooting coach in the world teaches both eyes open 4. relax the grip a bit, it's a .22 LR I hope you make a followup in a few weeks. I would love to see how it shoots after 300 - 500 rounds down the barrel. Like said I enjoy your videos, I hope the criticism does not offend
@Dayattherange4 жыл бұрын
Takes a lot more than that to offend me. Though is so many words you did call me fat. On the rimfire range which was closed for preparation of the wounded warriors event we have every year. On that range we have the drummers stool and much better benches that allow me to approach the rifle from directly behind. Dude the first digit of my hand is longer than 1inch all truth lol. I like to shoot dead center of the first digit feels natural to me 😂 On my Savage Oryx Chassis there is a place to relax your thumb feels so natural, on a normal wooden stock it feels unnatural and I shoot worst have tried it when my thumb is on the other side of the stock. You for sure have given GREAT advise but I think I want to get about 250 rounds down the barrel first. I still may get a drummers stool just in case but I already need a pickup truck to get all my crap to and from 😂 I don't want it to become work to go to the range keep it fun.
@53hound4 жыл бұрын
@@Dayattherange actually I was referring to your height not girth lol, and I can identify with the "work" comment. When I am going long to do range load development half my pickup bed is covered in gear and setup/takedown can take 20 min or more. Maybe that is one of the reasons why I am gravitating toward more rimfire sessions Apologies about the finger comment, in the video it looks like the trigger is falling at the first joint. Probably just the angle of the camera. Anyway thanks for the kind words and I have subscribed to your channel, looking forward to the follow up since I am considering doing a similar build and have been looking hard at that same barrel
