This saddle is GORGEOUS. I used to have a Devoucoux too, but ended up selling it due to it not fitting any of my other horses after the horse it was made for was sold. The resale value on these is amazing, so you really never have to worry about losing a ton of money. Also for those hating - when you invest yourself into a sport whether it be horses, hockey, football, etc, upgrading your equipment follows after you have proven that you are invested into it. Gabby isn't a brand new rider and has shown dedication from the start and has withheld that dedication over a long period of time and this saddle is SO well deserved. Congratulations Gabby! Because the girth is all leather, and Storm puts up a fight, you could get fluffy wool or sheep skin cover for it. Also, Gabby seemed so excited! The saddle is gorgeous!

I'm just worried about the saddle fitting storm for the long haul😐 . if gabby can ever get him to carry himself properly he will automatically start strengthening his top line, etc. Which could end up changing how the saddle fits.... But otherwise its very nice 😀 I hope it works out perfect

My 9yr old thoroughbred gelding and my 12h pony mare. Jericho my thoroughbred he has great Confirmation but he has to have custom built saddle yeah it was around 1000-1500 but it will hurt him if he doesn't have a custom saddle I had to ride him bareback for most of the year before saving money to get him it but thanks to my mom for helping me with bording two horses I had enough money and I am only 14 so... That's my story hope it fits stormy night

Exactly. That would have been a huge benefit to getting wool. If he looses weight or muscle, than you can use correction padding, at least for a while, but if the horse gains, you're out of luck.

I don’t know about this saddle but does it have a changeable gullet? I had a monarch Jumping saddle with a changeable gullet (also it was the most expensive saddle I ever bought) , it always fitted my pony who would gain weight (I always had it checked by a professional saddler) but I agree that Gabby is growing and it may not fit her before it doesn’t fit storm.

Devoucoux (the brand that they got) saddles do not have changeable or adjustable gullets. That said, there are custom saddle brands that do have adjustable gullets. However, theres more to it than just the gullet size. Yes, gaining/losing fat or muscle can cause the horse to need a different gullet size, but it can also cause the shape of the horses back to change. Even if he sticks to the same gullet size, him building up his topline can change the way the saddle distributes her weight, and the saddle may thus create pressure points on his back. Same goes for if he loses muscle or weight. If its due to weight/muscle loss, you can use a half pad with shims, but if its due to gain, you're out of luck.

Yay finally! You MUST clean it after every ride! Soap it every once in a while but use more of the leather balm. And no more half pads since it’s custom to storm! The girth is what jumpers use, but they do have hunter anatomical girths. Literally so happy for you. Ahhhh!!

There's nothing better than the feeling of a good saddle and knowing it fits you and your horse. I do not know that feeling, lol! The saddle I ride in fits my horse, but is a tiny bit long for me, but I make do and it's super comfortable. :) Congratulations, Gabby!! She's going to to look very sharp this show season!

The tape is for if you need to ship the saddle back to devocoux for whatever reason if it doesn’t fit, wrong size etc.

At last, how exciting, although I did take a sharp intake of breath when you tossed the stirrup leathers and girth over the saddle 😧 (careful you don’t scratch it), use the saddle cover and the stirrup iron covers you made 😊 Not sure what your tack locker is like for the saddle, but you can always cover in some foam to protect the underneath of the saddle or use a saddle pad if necessary 👍 I really hope that it fits ok and it’s everything you had hoped for, will the saddle fitter be coming back to check the fit at some stage?

Lovely new saddle! I think the mitt is for the leather balm though. Make sure to clean your tack at least once a week so it lasts! Don’t forget to clean the panels and sweat flaps ( underside where it touches the horse) as well!! Don’t over condition your saddle tho.

My stirrup leathers have numbers, super useful when you change riders often. Also if it doesn't fit storm they'll hopefully modify it for you for free or just shipping costs. I almost ordered a custom made saddle for my old pony when he changed shape and no longer fit his old saddle, and as part of purchasing it they included a fit check when it arrived and a few months later a second check and modification if needed.
