There are very few things that one can never get enough of in life. Davy Jones singing this song is one of those things.

I fell in love with Davy the first time I saw him on TV. I was 9 then. At 11 I saw them live at the Oakland Collosium, I remained a fan ever since. On the day he left us I was burying my horse, a grey Arab, just like the one Davy rode earlier that morning, I lost two of my first loves that day....later I sold my horse's saddle and donated a portion to his horse rescue organisation, I received a nice email from Davy's daughters which touched my heart. He will always hold a special place in every little girl's heart from the 60's, rip Davy

That's an awesome story. I was about the same age also when they came out and I love the song and him so much! It also broke my heart when he died. But I'm also sorry about your horse.

I did too! I was almost 11. That show changed my life. To this day, their music brings me such joy. You lost your beloved horse on the same day Davy left this world. As you know, Davy loved all his animals. I feel your beautiful horse is with Davy's horses in heaven with Davy overseeing them. You are truly a wonderful and caring person to donate to his horse rescue organization. He instilled a great joy and love to all who loved him and the Monkees. He lives on to all his fans in our hearts. Thank you for sharing your story with everyone. All the fans I had the honor to communicate with have shown a supreme quality of love and caring. That comes from pure love and joy that each one brought to us. You are truly a special person. I am so proud to be a Davy Jones fan with a kindred spirit!

@@corinneraden awww, Bless you for your kind comment, you really touched my heart. I think the passing of our first crushes hurts the most because it's a piece of our innocent hearts, our childhood, our first loves outside of our daddys or pets, and seeing them go brings us closer to the realization of our own mortality, that one day we will pass on as well. So many are asking why? Why did they have to go so soon? My own personal belief is that each and every one of us has an expiration date on the bottom of our foot, that day only our Creator knows. So live each day as if it were that date, love deeply, forgive frequently and laugh freely! Take care and God bless!

I know this is considered "bubble gum," juvenile, stupid pop. I know this is considered music for 11 year old girls. I am a 60 year old man and I fucking love it. It reminds of a time when I still had hope and love for others. Man, that guy really seemed to believe what he was saying. There is a sparkling sincerity about him. I hope there is a heaven for his sake.

How wonderful! I know he is in heaven. I am so elated when people can convey that special connection to the Monkees. Davy's main reason for preforming was to make people happy. He LOVED to sing and preform for his fans. That is what gave him such great joy! I have been a fan since 1966, Monday night on September 12th. They changed my world. I know exactly what you mean. I am a 66-year-old woman. Every time I hear one of their songs, I am transported to that wonderful Eara. I feel like a kid again. The song: "Take a Giant Step Outside your Mind" resonates so deeply when Micky sings: " Remember the feeling as a child, when you woke up and morning smiled? It's time you felt like you did then." How profound. To this day, we still need to remember we need that hope and love. Thank you for sharing.

When the Monkees were first presented with the "Daydream Believer" demo, Davy Jones was not sure of the song's potential at first and didn't understand the lyrics. He didn't know what a "homecoming queen" was, there was nothing comparable in Manchester, England where he grew up. He also said he was unfamiliar with the American idiom "without dollar one", meaning broke. "We'd done twelve songs and the thirteenth was Daydream Believer. I said, 'That's terrible.' I was a baritone and it was in the wrong key for my voice. I'd been in the studio all day, I was tired and I'm singing these words about twelve times...Hank Cicalo, the engineer, had his own way of numbering takes so he could find them, he'd call them 1A or 2A, like that. Anyway, all of a sudden he says '7A' over the talkback and I wasn't listening so I said 'What number is this?' and they said '7A!' in unison. That kicked me on a bit and I got it down but you can tell from the vocal that I was pissed off." (Monkeemania: The True Story of the Monkees, first U.S. edition, page 75) and (Davy Jones, The Monkees Tale, Last Gasp Press, 1986). Jones grudgingly admitted, "Maybe it's not that bad of a song after all." It went on to become a signature song of his. On Dec. 2, 1967, “Daydream Believer” did indeed hit No. 1 in America, remaining there for four weeks, until it was dislodged by The Beatles’ “Hello, Goodbye.”
