Erkenci Kus (English title: Early Bird) is a Turkish-made romantic comedy series by Gold Film.
Sanem (Demet Özdemir) is a girl who works in her father's grocery store and is loved by everyone. But her family tells her that she will marry if she can't find a job. Sanem starts working in an advertising agency to avoid getting married. But she doesn't know what awaits her in her new job. The manager of his company is the handsome, intelligent and cultured Can (Can Yaman). Since Sanem always manages to get into trouble, this situation attracts Can's attention and a great love story begins.

I agree. This is the 4th Turkish series I’ve watched and this one is so original. I’m understanding Turkish culture more and more. It’s fascinating how parents of their adult children are super sensitive about who their girls are seeing. And turns out their sons as well. I think the hardest part for me is some of the parents don’t want their children associating with “village people “ of lesser class and money. Clearly Can has absolutely no problem with Sanem, her family and where they live. He sees her as all the things he cherishes in life. He really doesn’t have time for women who are wealthy, scheming to have him as boyfriend and who wear incredibly short skirts and low cut tops 😂. He loves how Sanem is full of life and smart and talented. They for sure have their issues! But I love how patient and supportive and caring he can be and truthful and how he respects her parents. The English subtitles have been a huge success and without them I would probably not be able to enjoy this.

I’ve learned a lot about Turkish culture watching these series! Early Birds is the first I’ve seen that doesn’t feature Forced marriage or domestic violence. I’m currently watching Behind the Vale, the amount.of violence against women sent me back to Early Birds for a break.

If they don't want to follow that then they need to have their daughters quit their job and stay at home until their parents can arrange a marriage for them. In this series, Erkenci Kus, Sanem is supposed to be totally naive about sex! She has old fashioned parents that want to protect her virginity and innocence and so does Sanem! It is totally endearing how these two characters are actually having sex without having sex. The anticipation of what will inevitably happen is brilliant! Not to mention the chemistry between Can and Sanem, it just kept me coming back for more! And her child like ways offset what a real woman she behaves like when it comes to protecting and defending those that mean the most to her! Sanem becomes a full grown woman as the series progresses until the final episode. She obviously had sex with Can and had a family as well, their romance and passion came full circle and it was absolutely beautiful! I wish this series never ended, both Can And Demet were amazing together, the series was brilliant ❣️

I liked this series but it's getting harder to watch. I get that in a lot of Turkish Rom Coms the women are written to be clumsy, silly, quirky, and not that bright, but Sanem is so over the top. She acts like a ten year old on a sugar rush. It's fine being a little goofy, but watching her be so juvenile and immature for dozens of hours is exhausting. Also, what's up with her mom? Why is she so obsessive over her daughters' love lives? If they are in love and happy, why can't she just be glad for them? Tearing through her Sanem's room and going through her things, storming into her place of work to confront her, making her give back her mode of transportation all because she dared to fall in love without her mom's permission. Ridiculous. I think this plot line would be better if the problem was "we can't be together because we are boss and employee." Not, "I'm too scared to tell my mommy." Also, I'm so ready for every lie to be revealed. Al the secrets Aylin, Sanem, Emre are keeping need to be brought to light already. But imma keep watching

In conservative culture, having a chaperone is part of dating and that the men talk to the parents to ask permission to court the daughter before they are allowed to go out because it shows that the guy is truly interested and serious in their intent towards the girls and not just playthings to pass the time. That's why the neighbors were talking that way as the parents don't have knowledge of the daughter's lovelives/ activities.

I know it’s a series but it’s frustrating watching Sanem sneaking around with Can. He is more than willing to meet with her parents or do whatever is necessary to be with Sanem. literally. They were so ready to marry her off to someone she wasn't happy with in the beginning of the series. But now that she's found someone she loves, they are interfering and throwing a fit. so annoying.
