This is very much the story of my life, with the difference that we never got married, and when I left, I didn't know then, but later I found out I was pregnant. Our mothers would have never let us get married. Forty two years later and I haven't seen or talked with mother, and I will never do. This series, wants to raise awareness about old fashion customs, tradition and strict parenting... which in many regions in Turkey it is still practiced today. It is heartbreaking to see that Leyla at 27 still needed her parents approval to marry.

Correct not all traditions are right! I see similarities in Turkish culture and African culture actually, except in African culture the father consents to the children's marriage. In African culture Can would ask for his father's consent since he had a dad, and Can's Mom was supposed to follow whatever Can's dad said regarding the marriage preparations.

They care more about what their image is and what their neighbors think. Sanem lives in constant fear of her parents reaction, even at the expense of Can and her relationship. Shed be the type of person that if her parents didn't give their approval to be engaged she would not get married and live with her parents single and alone the rest of her life. How she was raised has made her so consumed with how everyone else thinks that she doesn't even consider what she wants. She doesn't stand up and communicate what she wants. And when it comes down to it, the one she is going to blame for it all is Can. As we see in this episode. She is putting all the blame on him. Not her parents or Can's mom and medsling and fighting about the wedding, not her sister and brother in law and the pressure from their parents to get these lists done at the expense of her writing. It's gotten to the point that Can and her or talking to each other but not listening, all they do is make assumptions. I think their inevitable break up was a blessing in disguise because they both had to figure things out. Sanem needed to group up a bit. I just hate that they blamed everything on Can when there were many to blame, including the parents. But I get it, probably in their culture parents can do no wrong and are perfect and never have to apologize. So to say that her parents wanted their happiness. I disagree. I grew up with parents who where selfish and everytime you tried to talk to them about things they did or said or if something hurt you, they'd go into immediate guilt trip mode. I see Sanems moms face when she puts that sad, pouty face on and starts making her daughters feel bad and it automatically triggers me to what my mom would do. Like Can, I don't put up with my mom doing that anymore. Sanem needs to get away from her parents and learn to communicate what she wants, stop blaming others, and stop caring or listening to others. It cracks me up when Leila is asking Sanem help with the list while Sanem is trying to write and Leila said that mom won't let her go on her honeymoon if she doesn't get this list done and she needs help. Leila, you're married, your mom no longer has control over you and can't force you to do anything. Your under your husband now. But after all the demands from her parents, Leila and BIL, Sanem is blaming Can for her inability to write. Smh.

This series should have ended a good 10 episodes ago. It started of great and now it's just stretching out for longer then bareable. Personally this is my third attempt to finish all the way and I am having a hard time doing that. The unnecessary and long arguments and tensions and conversations are making this ending hard to listen to. I think that this series should have ended right before Sanem decided to sell her perfume because everything after that was too lengthy and annoying. It upsets me to see Osman and Ayhan leave and I can't watch the childhood bond break. Sanem pays no attention to her friend anymore and I miss the simplicity that the neighborhood had in the beginning. Friends going out to have tea at the park and Can and Sanem having a simple relationship. This ending is only stressful and seems so extra to the point that I am trying to finish these last episodes faster to get it over with.

This is very painful to watch and how these two couples don’t even care about privilege and money and status. They found the women they love and respect and want to have a wonderful life with. Not the women who are pretty on the outside but lacking in the very personalities that attracted Can and Emre ultimately. Yet both sets of parents made them unhappy. Sanem and Leila are amazing women, full of love and respect and compassion. They’re not perfect but they are old enough and wise enough to choose who makes them happy. Neither Can nor Emre had successful relationships before they were with Sanem and Leyla. Making your sons and daughters feel sad and guilty is about control, not trust. The mothers are very possessive and at some point it’s just about letting go of children and respecting their adulthood. That’s love.

I get that tradition is a huge thing for the girl's family but how the parents don't see that they are a part of the problem is wild, not nearly as bad as the boy's mom but still a part of it. And as much as I love the show I cannot deal with all of the panic and dramatic reactions with the fainting, neck braces, high bp attacks, etc like they are dying 😆🙄I love how Can handles his mom, Emre should follow suit. In the real world, it is also how he should have handled Pollen after the first time or two of telling her nicely. The girls need to grow a pair. I don't fault Can really for what happens and the fact that Sanem's fault/part or the parents is never completely fully addressed still irritates me. lol

Years of heartache could have been avoided if only both couples would have been allowed to get married together when eloping. Huma's refusal to accept Sanem & Can's marriage & her continuous sabotage caused catastrophic damage to their relationship. It also allowed evil Ygirit to get in-between them to cause them even more horrific pain during the time they were separated. They suffered so much.

My heart breaks for Ayhan and Osman the best siblings and the best of friends to Lylea and Senam. None of this should have happened to them, and I believe Lylea and Osman should have loved each other equally and married, they could have brought someone else into the equation for Emre to love. Ayhan is suffering because of the lack of love and support from parents, now disillusioned by the breakup of her brothers engagement to Lylea, fears of loving and no one to lean on because her brother is gone and she stepped away from JJ due to her brothers situation. They of all people in this series deserves true happiness. I’m truly disappointed in this series up to this point , I hope it gets better. 😢😢😢😢😢. But I know it won’t because I see the interference of both mothers, one wanting to destroy the marriage and future marriage of the other son, the other heaping the burden of tradition upon them for so called revenge in my opinion. I'm getting exhausted from the angst, manipulations, and neurotic, extreme reactions of the characters. 14 full episodes to go and it can't come soon enough. All weddings have drama and stress and it's usually selfishness end egos from people. I had to deal with a Mother-in-law and a step mother-in law/father-in-law; one saying they wouldn't attend if the other attended and then the other trying to take credit for helping with our wedding which they did not. The final straw was the step-mother-in law with the support of my ex's Dad trying to take the place of honour over my husband's mother in the line of the wedding part. I finally said to them all; do what you want. It's your decision. And the insanity never ended until the relationship did. Seeing this; That twit thinking he has a chance with Sanem is delusional. Can's Mom is a horror story and Emry needs to grow a pair. I'm truly disappointed in Mebkivit's behaviour. And I feel sorry for Can, Sanem, Emry and Layla and how they're treated like possessions by these parents. I know it's just a show but I suspect it reflects traditions that are very much in effect to this day.
