IF - and that's a big IF - the company actually offered real information about the product rather than showing endless footage about someone's personal experience with it, their feelings when they opened the box, etc., I'd be more inspired to explore it further. There's ZERO real information - just human interest fluff.

When I first saw the announcement, I had a feeling that it might be a reflective LCD. While using that tech itself isn't revolutionary, making it at such a high pixel density while maintaining contrast is impressive. The kindle-like frontlight layer is also a hell of a lot better than the one on my old Palm m515, where I first fell in love with the tech.
@mrgw983 ай бұрын
I was thinking GameBoy and GameBoy Color, but PDAs are a great example too. It felt kind of weird for it to be touted as a new invention when it really is more of a refinement of a screen technology that has existed for decades now.
@ziginox3 ай бұрын
@@mrgw98 oh yeah, same tech as the GBC, thankfully it seems more reflective than the original GBA! I still hold the m515 in high regard. In an era before the Kindle, I read many books on that device. The color was a bit washed out for sure, but it was at least sunlight-readable in an era where backlights were lacking.
@shiorinyan3 ай бұрын
Yeah. Reflective LCD is pretty nice, and while I personally much prefer e-ink (Mostly, because it feels more comfy to *me*, and low refresh rate is a non-issue), its always nice for other methods... of achieving such things, to be developed, and put out on the market. More choice, always nice.

As someone who only uses tablets for personal use occasionally, this is a nice middle ground between e-ink and bright/glossy LCD and OLED devices, great battery battery life and easy to see outdoors while still being able to watch an occasional youtube video is huge in my opinion.

Why does Michael Fisher only have 1.25 Million subscribers? He really should have WAY more, given he has the BEST written videos of any KZbinr on the planet. His like one of those introspective writers of television programs that are like documentaries. But done in such a way as to not be monotone like a lot of crappy documentaries, instead being a joy to watch and listen to. Just the right amount of passion and joy imbued to keep you awake and at the same time relaxed.

I like the idea and I hope these eyestrain-free displays become more popular. If you want distraction free, though, nothing beats the Remarkable, IMO. It CANNOT browse the web. This is a FEATURE for a device cutting distractions. You can read, you can annotate, draw/write, you can send yourself an email with your documents, sync them, and that's IT. No checking your email, no surfing instagram, the device is TRULY exclusively for reading/writing/drawing.

There's a video by the CEO Anjan Katta from only 3 weeks ago explaining how the display works CLAMING THE TABLET IS E-PAPER WITH TECHNOLOGY SIMILAR TO E-INK BUT MODIFIED TO HAVE THE HIGH REFRESH RATE WE SEE HERE, in actuality it's NOT e-paper display or use anything similar to e-ink at all, like MrMobile stated in this video. You can search "World's first 60+ FPS e-paper display | Daylight" and watch the video yourself. On their product website they only use the word "paper-like" to describe the tablet, however the page title of the website still calls it e-paper. If that's not a huge red flag I don't know what.

I tend to be an early adopter and became aware of this around a month ago. but the video of the creator with his thick beads and shaman outfit standing on a couch looking at his notes on the wall of a million dollar property didnt really feel great on my brain. "im revolutionary and a genius, and down to earth. buy my 800 dollar tablet to become one with yourself." also i noticed that they dont mention the resolution of the display, i want to say its like 150 dpi(less than 200 for sure) where modern eInk like the kindle is 300 dpi. its still interesting, but the price is way to much for me.

I only heard about this product recently and it seemed revolutionary. E-ink that refreshes at 60fps 🤯 unfortunately, that's not the case and people are being sold a lie. Considering the cost too, its a very niche product. I wonder how far you could get with a cheaper OLED Android tablet, slap a paper screen protector on it, set display to greyscale and use a minimalist launcher.

This isn't e-ink!! It's a reflective LCD screen (meaning it has no backlight but instead uses the light around you to illuminate the screen), the same kind of screen that was on the gameboy advance 20+ years ago. It's important to distinguish because e-ink has many advantages (amazing battery life and paper-like eye feel probably being the bigger ones) that this device does not have. This device is a compromise between e-ink and regular lcd displays, trying to achieve a similar look to e-ink while not having the downside of slow refresh rate.
