I must say that you're one of the few people I watch more for the person than the game they're playing. Being a literature student myself I just enjoy the discussions and thoughts you bring, it's really nice to have on the background while playing after a hard day of studying, I few like I'm not procrastinating to much. Also, your voice is really nice and calming, though not in a "make me sleepy" way.

In the United States, it is rare for a police department to have an armory stocked with weapons (contrary to how PZ portrays). Most cops take their sidearm home and may even produce their own rifle to use at work. Most cars have a shotgun left in them though. Things could have been different in the 90s when this game takes place. If you remember from years ago I mentioned something similar to you about the the military base. Love watching your videos!

Some PD's in america do have armories stocked with weapons, and back in the day they mostly had armories full of weapons. Its illegal to own a gun in California, but police ARE still able to use them if need be, and they HAVE to be stored somewhere with a TON of security, example, a vault with officers gaurding it, as well as several other security measures.

“liberal” in the context of liberal arts is from the adjectival definition of the latin word “liber” meaning “free.” liber can mean both “book” or “free” depending on whether the i is long or short. short i means book, long i means free. the term refers to the group of studies that enlightenment intellectuals deemed essential for any free man to know in order to be properly educated and equipped to remain free, i.e. the core idea behind the quote “know your history or be doomed to repeat it.” essentially they believed if you didn’t have some substantive familiarity with the liberal arts then you would be susceptible to making mistakes and misjudgments that would end up robbing you of your liberties and freedom of thought/choice, making you a slave either figuratively or literally. sorry for the length of this but i felt it was important to note :-)

About measurements In the UK it's a free for all; we use both metric and imperial and interchange between them I think in yards, feet, stone, miles, inches, centimetre, litres, pints etc Don't even get me started about what the Pound Sterling was like, it used to be non-decimal

To be clear, the United States does not use the Imperial System. That was standardized in the UK in 1824, decades after the American Revolution and we never adopted it. Although many of our measurements are the same, or close enough, the measurements of volume are significantly different. The United States did look into adopting the metric system several times, as early as the beginning of the eighteenth century. History Matters did a great, and short, video on the subject.

28:06 The 'guy's foot' that was the standard of 'a foot' measurements used to be the king's foot. The whole reason the measurement system is called the 'imperial system' is because it came from imperial England. The king of England's foot used to be the standard. However, because kings die, the measurement kept changing. Eventually, they stopped changing it and set the standard, but for the longest time, the imperial measurement system used to be the most inconsistent system ever. And this is why I roll my eyes every time a Brit points and laughs at Americans for using the imperial system- like, we got this shitty-ass system from *y'all's ancestors,* fam. Hyuck it up, but it's England that had the 'genius' idea to have a shitty-ass system to begin with.

I know I’m a year late but I think the metric system is better for everything except for temperature. For every day use as a person there are more integer degrees of temperature within the survivable range for humans that aren’t negatives like 0 is so cold you’ll die after a while and 100 is hot enough that you can also die from heatstroke in the right conditions, idk that’s how I rationalize it

In a country that speaks 0.7 of a language on average, the fact that they expect the US population to understand a measurement system so unnecessarily complicated is pretty funny. There's a rifle that uses a computer to ensure first shot hits. You tell the computer what your bullet weight and powder load is and then press a button on your desired target. The computer tracks and follows the target and when you pull the trigger the rifle won't fire until the bullet will hit the target.

There is nothing wrong with moon-landing imperial units. The only real benefit to switching to metric (besides shutting up the euro-conformists) would be to omit the unit conversions when communicating to & from the USA and other countries. If you are a scientist, engineer, or technician, then chances are you'll have no problem working with either set of units, and you'd better be able to anyway considering that all the different machines and infrastructure in both unit systems will be around for decades or even centuries. Also a fun fact: the USA is already in the process of converting to metric with the passage of the Metric Conversion Act of 1975, so this whole argument is kinda pointless anyway.

In a video game, sure. In reality? Why don't you just make copies of your house keys and hand them out to homeless people, or drug addicts. See how quick you believe in having your own private space with a lock. Hell, I've had friends I've put up in my home, that I had to kick out because they literally destroyed the walls / Furniture etc. Edit: The concept only works if everyone respects each other, and unfortunately we're not built that way.

Yeah, I died a little inside when he said he thought private ownership was stupid lol I mean, free stuff all around sounds great at first...until you realize that other Humans exist. Human nature makes a Communist "utopia" impossible because theres always going to be power hungry people that will just take everything for themselves. And they wouldnt be wrong in doing so, since it technically belongs to nobody, and then they get to make the rules on who gets to have what. Then several years, maybe even decades down the road, scores of people start dying of hunger and the country falls apart because such an economic model is not sustainable. Its all a lie. Like when politicians talk about "free healthcare" lol Its not free. _Nothing_ is free. You want to know how "free" healthcare is paid for? By raising your taxes. So sure, you wont have to pay anything up front. But now your paycheck is smaller. And not just yours. _Everybodies_ pay check is now smaller to pay for that "free" healthcare only a portion of the population actually wanted. Its nice to dream, but thats the only place where such an idea can actually work.
