Days Gone is an action-adventure survival horror video game developed by SIE Bend Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4. Days Gone is set in a post-apocalyptic open world, played from a third-person perspective. The player controls Deacon St. John (Sam Witwer), a former outlaw-turned-drifter and bounty hunter who prefers life on the road to wilderness encampments. The game takes place two years after a global pandemic occurred almost wiping all of humanity, and transformed millions of others into "Freakers", mindless zombie-like creatures that are quickly evolving.
Deacon St. John, a member of Mongrel MC, is among the survivors of the epidemic. Deacon drifts through the wasteland of the Pacific Northwest, never staying in one place for too long. Deacon often takes work as a Bounty Hunter/Mercenary, offering his services in exchange for supplies. However, Deacon learns that there is a price on his head adding to his list of enemies. Deacon and his friend Boozer plan to head north but their plans are put on hold when Boozer is injured and Deacon's bike is destroyed.
Characters include: Sarah St. John, Manny, Mark Copeland, Iron Mike, Addison Walker and Rikki Patil.

this game? my first impressions seem quite dull, like this game is gonna be a SLUG fest. Even without playing it yet it doesn't catch my eye still. Cool, maintainable bike, free roam in a large map but overall, unoriginal, lazy and the writing to start this off? Should have delayed this even further. Again, have not played this game yet but I would give it anything lower than a 7/10. Hey, a studio that hasn't been in the gaming industry to make games in a while, wonder what happens when there exposed to new technology and a totally different approach as a studio. You get this mediocre, zombie survival game. I would be surprised if critics give this anything higher than a 7, who in the right mindset would? When it comes to Brad critiquing games, I will never listen, not cuz "oh he's getting paid to promote the game" no that's fucking stupid but his mindset is so childish or doesn't think anything out of the box or you know anything in detail generally. Brad would probably be the worst video game reviwer of all time no cap.

Same. Didn’t play it until the PS Plus Collection on PS5 and it’s definitely one of my top games of the gen and I’m kind of disappointed I slept on this for so long. Never again will I trust reviews. This is one of the more wrong reviews I’ve ever seen. Reprehensible what they did to this game and clear they never even played it, at least beyond the first several hours. Or they judged it on the bugs, which I have never agreed with because those get fixed and Bend went above and beyond to take care of those. On PS5 I saw not one bug and it runs at a smooth 4K 60 fps which is impressive for a game that looks like this one does and is open world. Relatively no popin as well. Game is a solid 9 or 10 for sure.

@Darth Nutsack honestly you get used to it real quick. I rarely used it, but circle is your handbrake. You can get upgrades that give it better traction as well. I thought it was one of the best handling vehicles I’ve used in a game once I got used to it, but I can see how initially it seems like a bitch. But the real trick at first is not to just hold down right trigger and drive full speed. Take your foot off the gas, or finger off the trigger as it were when turning and you’ll have no issues at all. I found that to be the easiest way until I got used to the bike later on.

So while sure at the time of launch some games are buggier than others, Skyrim and GTA 5 were also low fps bugfests among many others, when they launched as well, they’re usually fixed within maybe a month or two. Sometimes a little longer. I mean Skyrim’s stupidly low fps and glitches spawned it’s own term of ‘Rimlag’. But that game got no 5’s. Then you have a game not even a couple months old that has a 5 or a 6, based on bugs that are no longer there, but anyone picking up the game then sees a 5 or a 6. Even if they mention in the review ‘because of the launch bugs’, most people only look at the number score and don’t read the reviews. Then you have some games which get really high scores despite a lot of bugs, like Skyrim or Cyberpunk, and then you get a Days Gone who gets a 5 from places like IGN and they went above and beyond to clear all bugs, optimize the game, drop it from 60g to 38g, and give is a 4K 60 fps version for launch day of PS5. And Days Gone is amazing. Yet it sits at a 7. Game is an 8 at least but I’d give it a 9, only because it has it’s flaws and no game deserves a perfect score really. Which on a separate note is why Last of Us 2 and Cyberpunk getting perfect 10 out of 10’s from reviewers is ridiculous. But that’s another topic. Anyway, I’m all for making users aware of bugs during launch. And whether even a majority of players have issues or not, gaming news always picks up any bugs so people should know about it. But that shouldn’t go into the review. A game shouldn’t be stuck with a low review for bugs that are no longer there. I mean the initial review can make or break a game or determine, as we see with Days Gone, whether a game gets a sequel or not. You could have an amazing game get lowered because of launch bugs, which literally every game has now but that’s a bigger issue, and no one picks it up because it sits at a 6. It’s not like the bugs are part of the game. Make people aware. But do not include them in your review.

They got the trees and environment right in the game, a lot of Oregon looks like that. Also it rains for like 3 months straight cept this year winter and spring was mild....you can have all 4 seasons in a single day lol

I’ve experienced so many games with Brad. GTA 5, beyond two souls, telltale games like walking dead, wolf among us, Batman, tales of borderlands. Quantum break, the last of us and possibly a few more that I can’t think of off the top of my head. But by watching him play I felt like I was playing back when I couldn’t play these games. It got me back into video games and made me actually want to buy the games and play them again

Obstone Yeah. They apparently aren’t like zombies in the traditional sense that they drink water and stuff. More along the lines of infected. Although they do follow the zombie horde trope.

Xranos Depends on your definition. I think Zombie is someone who died and gets reanimated (no limbs and still “alive”). Infected is just someone who the pathogen/disease rewrites or “mutates” without killing the host.

First of all SIE Bend is a small company. Now, I am not saying that this game is perfect, but when a small company ends up making a game like this, a game with beautiful graphics, a game that grabs different formulas from the past successful video games, and combine them together, that’s considered a success! Now I get their some stupid bugs that needs to be fixed, but overall the game is still awesome! if they do decide to do a second part of the game, it will be better and hopefully they fix the story but keep in mind that the whole point of this game is that Deacon St. John is struggling to find a purpose without his wife.
