Why is it so hard being a mom? I watch you and I see myself from some years ago - the overwhelm, the mental load ... the anxiety. Emma, you're ok, things will get easier. You're doing fine. ❤️

Thanks for the encouragement and bringing a positive mindset into the chaos of motherhood. You help me and my mindset when raising my 2 young girls(toddler and baby). We also suffered illness after illness in September it’s so hard!

We travel with our kids a lot because we don’t live close to family (closest family member is 2 hrs away) and our boys started doing 5 hour trips at 2 months old. They are 2 and 5 now and both great riders. I think part of the reason is because they have never known any different. We don’t do screen time in the car (and have greatly limited it at home too). They are much more capable than we think! This summer our kids were in the car for over 50 hours and we had maybe 2-3 hours total where one of them was fussy. We actually recently bought a van that has a DVD player in it, but our kids don’t even know it is in there. The more you practice the better it will get!

We've gone on a few small road trips with my daughter since she was about 3 months old. Our longest car ride has been 6 hours and we just had so many toys and snacks for her (she was 15 months at the time) and it went so well. We typically don't do screen time (aside from the occasional veggietales and even less occasionally movie at home), but my family is big into audio books and we hope to have family audio book time for future car rides.

The biggest thing that’s helped me with my anxiety is recognizing when I start feeling anxious, then asking myself okay “what is running through my mind right now?”, and then challenging those thoughts and bringing my focus back to what I can control and focus on in the moment. Thoughts create feelings which creates actions. If we can change our thoughts, we can change our feelings. Sometimes it’s easier to recognize your anxiety symptoms before you even realize your brain is in an anxiety spiral, so the symptoms are my signal to stop the thought spiral. Plus lots and lots of prayer! I was on medication for anxiety for just under a year, just came off of it, and have never felt more at peace!
