days in the life of a writer | current reads, adjusting my writing process and a mindset shift

I've been working through Between the Waves here and there, and also doing a lot of internal mindset work which has been so necessary. It's so easy to get sucked into the pressure of writing for the sake of successful publishing, which I discuss a lot in this vlog. There's also just a lot of life clips and little moments in this one, so I hope you enjoy a vlog that is slightly chaotic and romanticized, just like I like my life to be 😂

I'm loving the chatty updates outside with the birds! So peaceful and relaxing! And very much needed the chat about publishing pressure. I keep catching myself trying to motivate myself to write by thinking about how much closer I'll be to publishing, but that's just really not what I need. (Also I will watch whatever vlogs you put out whether they're focusing on Between the Waves or not because they're just so relaxing and high vibe ☺)

Thank you for discussing the importance of taking time off, Kayla! I've been placed onto 2 weeks' medical leave from work by my doctor and it is less than ideal for my circumstances right now, but I know it is going to be good for my health to take the time for myself to recover and get well. I love this cozy writing vlog! Holland looks absolutely gorgeous! 😍 I think breaks are definitely necessary when you need them. I took a 7 month break after turning the 3rd draft of my PhD dissertation (a script I adapted into a novel) and didn’t work on the 4th draft until March 2024. I’m waiting on one last round of beta feedback before I lengthen the book and query (hopefully this summer). But I think the break was necessary! I would love to hear about your other projects aside from BETWEEN THE WAVES! I’m so curious! 👀🥰 I’m glad you loved SO LET THEM BURN! I have the book, but my TBR is so huge that I haven’t read it yet! I want to soon!

This resonated so much with me! I have so many ideas and possible outcomes for my novel that it feels quite overwhelming but I also felt the pressure that I needed to constantly talk about the progress on my channel or people would loose interest. The novel needs its time to grow and your video was a perfect reminder to give it that time. All the best from Vienna :)

I felt this! Your talk about taking time off and burnout from projects as well as Kris's video. I have been feeling this about my own story. I went through some things with someone not doing what they said as an alpha reader and waisted a whole month waiting on them and then when I finally realized they weren't going to do they're read through I felt so put off of my story... And making the conscious decision to take a break from it actually helped a lot and i'm in this flow of writing again... Idk maybe as creators we just put so much pressure on ourselves that when we finally take a step back and do it for joy and its not being forced is when our best work happens.... A long rant just to say thank you for being so open about your writing journey and showing the real and raw of being a writer its not all "sunshine and rainbows" and we write an entire story and its great. It takes time and its hard, I've just really appreciated the relatability of your journey ❤❤
