@@probiotic1 oh I’m sure! I just can’t imagine going from what probably was a poverty situation to asking for 500$ shoes and actually getting them. Material things don’t necessarily “matter” but when you’re his age they do. Nice clothes and shoes, and things that are “in style” really do make a difference in a child’s life whether it be confidence or just security. Im positive the love and inclusion feels wonderful….but im so happy he has cool things that other kids have.

I 100% understand the want to spoil your child. I grew up very poor so I wanted to make sure I could provide for my kids more than just what they needed. It’s important to make them feel special on their day. HOWEVER, you need to be aware on how this will eventually change their mindset of the world. How things work. How sometimes life isn’t fair and the majority of the time things aren’t handed to them on a silver platter just because they want it. The value of saying thank you and being grateful for what they are given. Not just expecting because it’s what they are used to. It’s also important to be aware of how many kids you have. Of course you know but if you don’t treat them all the same when it comes to how you celebrate, it can be detrimental to their self esteem. More one on one time is really important too so no child feels like they are being left out. More than just once every few months. I get that this is your way of providing for your family but if you feel the need to constantly bribe and beg your children to make money for you by having them in matching outfits and saying their favorite color then maybe some more effort can be put into teaching them some life lessons. Giving back and independence. Just a thought.

Can I just say I absolutely love Josh’s involvement with the gift most dads are just like okay cool put my name on it but the fact that he has a smile on his face while helping is so incredibly amazing. The sneakers alone were gift enough. As someone commented. People who are used to having money are more frugal. We live comfortably. I reuse gift bags and reuse anything I am able to save money. I know that tomorrow I could wake up and itt can all be gone. Our kids were spoiled. But, not to excess. Now we do the same for the grandkids. Teach them that just because you want it. Doesn’t mean you will get it. Spending time and loving them and doing simple things will be remembered Then what they got for their birthday at age 13. My kids when talking about growing up always go to the fun times not the material items.
