My husband and I got married and a month later I moved away for PA school in a different city! Majority of my cohort does long distance! You make it work and just push through when it gets difficult! Studying is definitely your whole life so your partners patience really helps make it feel better and helps you feel less guilty for not having so much time for them!

Thank you for this video! I’m 23 and married with a 2 year old, and I’ve been considering going back to school and becoming a PA. My husband has an amazing tech job, but he is also in the military, and he is gone a lot for both. I have been unsure if we could make it work since I’ve heard “you have no life when you are in PA school”. This gives me hope that I might be able to juggle my marriage, being a mom, and going to PA school without everything falling apart lol

Haha yes, you definitely can! It’s so temporary. That hard days don’t last forever, and before you know it, you’ve graduated and you can resume living the life YOU want to 👍 I had many classmates who were married with kids while in PA school. They all graduated 😄

I’m in PA school now (3rd semester) and it’s definitely been more studying every semester. I moved 5 hours away and my fiancé can’t drive down here until he gets a new car. So I see my fiancé about 4 times a year on his breaks. I think it would be easier if he would have been able to move with me but he’s working full time and in school so he couldn’t move. I feel like I would do more studying him just being here than me just thinking about him all the time. But it’s okay. Almost a year down and then I graduate in August 2020. Really hoping to get some rotations back up where I’m from. We also lived together for a year before I got into school so going from living with each other to only seeing each other 4 times a year is rough. Somedays I don’t even have time to text him.
@DaywithaPA5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that is difficult being apart, esp when you used to live together. It is much easier for us living together. All I can tell you is that it’s so temporary. PA school flys by. I can’t believe I graduate in 3 months. It doesn’t seem real! Like you said, hopefully you get some rotations back home! That’ll make your clinical year much better, and it’ll make time go by faster!
@MHSMagicLuver5 жыл бұрын
Day with a PA yep. :) had my first day back after spring break. I was home but I had to study the whole time for my two retake exams I had to take today. But I passed them! So I’m super happy about that. 6 more weeks of the semester. :) I can’t even Imaging graduating. I know it’s like a year and a few months away but that seems so close! And then peoples lives will be in my hands. Good luck! Do you have a job offer yet? I heard people start looking about 3 months before graduation.

I got dumped when I told my girlfriend that I was going back to school after trying 4yrs to get hired with the fire department. The economy was bad and no one was hiring. So she left me and the struggles began. I had to work weekends while going to school during the week. I moved 4 times because of complications with roommates. I haven't dated for over 4yrs it's been a lonely road. I had my family who stood by me and helped me financially. I wish I had someone to lean onto when I needed a shoulder to cry on. Depression surely hit me along this journey, but I'm almost done with my undergrad and hopefully meet someone who will stand by me.

Thanks! I looked at PANCE pass rates for the programs I applied to. I made sure they were all pretty high. Aside from that, I wanted a program in a cool city, too, with things to do so I could escape from PA school when I had the time. I also favored older programs that were well established. My program has a ton of clinic sites for rotations. Newer programs don’t have that luxury, and I’ve heard of students having to find all of their rotations. My program found nearly every one of my rotations aside from my electives which I chose.

I’m starting PA school at St Louis University and will actually be living about an hour outside of the school on the Illinois side. Good to see people from that area! I’m excited to be moving to that area because my boyfriend is currently there and we are doing long distance now... so it will be awesome to be in the same area. I am nervous I won’t have any time though to be together... what was the time frame before you got into your routine and were able to find the balance ?

That’s crazy! We’re probably pretty close! It probably took me 2-3 months to figure out how I was going to succeed in PA school haha. You’ll get a few exams under your belt and realize what’s expected of you. Once you know that, you’ll get an idea of how much free time you can allow yourself!

Thanks for the video! Sounds like I'm in a similar spot to what you guys were...starting PA school in June, and getting married over a school break in December. Did you all get married during your schooling? Any tips on that?
@DaywithaPA5 жыл бұрын
Holly Baca Yes! We got married in 2017 (positive about that now 😂) in the middle of my didactic year. Being the guy, I really didn’t do a whole lot of “wedding planning.” Ok, I really did nothing haha. My wife and now MIL were like wedding-planning-ninjas. It sounds like you’ll be getting married right after your first semester? If that’s the case, try to get as much done before you start school if you can. Write out what still needs to be done in the months leading up to the wedding and break it down by week. Try to do 2-3 things a week (maybe more of you can) and don’t overwhelm yourself! Don’t be scared to delegate tasks to others like your family (or even your fiancé) haha

I want to know what life in Kentucky is like? (pros and cons) I'm from the North East and am truly over the winter season lollll looking to move more south.
@DaywithaPA4 жыл бұрын
Haha well winters in Kentucky really aren’t mild. Likely less snow but still plenty of cold weather! Lexington is a very cool up and coming city. Many good restaurants, breweries, and distilleries in the surrounding areas! It’s also incredibly clean for a city. We loved living there! Cons I guess would be that it doesn’t have a big city feel as it’s relatively small, so if you’re looking for that, great. However, if you’re wanting a more metropolitan feel with millions of people, you’re not going to find that in KY.

So I'm hoping to go from Paramedic to PA. However, I am married with two kids and my wife stays at home. Trying to figure out the viability of the chance.
@DaywithaPA3 жыл бұрын
That is tough. I had classmates with families so it's definitely possible! Either save up the money to make it happen or "gently" encourage your wife to return to work while you're in school haha. Also, you may find that a longer program (closer to 30 months) is more feasible as you have more time to study and balance life. Of course, you have the downside of being in school longer.
@andrewchavez54554 жыл бұрын
Since you had to go another state to attend PA school, did you get out of state tuition or how does all that work?

Yes, out of state tuition, unless you can find a way to establish residency before beginning school. In KY, you had to live in the state for 1 year before being enrolled in school. They make it really difficult 👎

When u did ur patient contact hours was 1-2 years part time enough because the school that I’m looking to apply to requires 3000 patient contact hours but how r u supposed to balance that with full time school?? What was ur experience
@DaywithaPA5 жыл бұрын
Johanna Poysti wow, that’s a lot. Usually it’s around 2k hours if there’s a requirement. I’d apply to schools with lower PCE thresholds if I were you. Look for no requirement (but recommended) or schools that req 1k hours
@JohannaPoysti5 жыл бұрын
Day with a PA if I were to apply to a pa school where 3k patient contact hours is required, would u think starting to accumulate them in my sophomore year of college would be enough time? If I was also a full time student and other requirements are needed e.g.volunteering and shadowing
@DaywithaPA5 жыл бұрын
Johanna Poysti possibly. It’d be close. If you were truly part time at 20 hours a week working for 3 years, that’d get you to 3k. You could also work more in the summers to make up hours if you couldn’t make 20 hours a week work all the time and had to cut back here and there.
@TheArmedNurse5 жыл бұрын
3000 hours?? Some of the schools I looked at only required 500-700 hours and others no experience required.

OutNProud500 you’re correct. Some programs require 0, some will require 3k.

Braiden I feel bad that you had to deal with that. You shouldn't have to justify your education. She fought to justify her own place explicitly. She told you how difficult it was for her, but it was obviously more difficult for you. Marketing is one of the most desired business degrees and just by her dialect, she says things that are not intellectually fluent. She helps people but not to the same degree. When you have someone insecure and needing to always discern their own achievements over urs, I can't help but feel bad for you. I see it on your face in your videos.
