I really enjoy the pre PA advice. I’m a sophomore in college and all I can think about is applying to PA school. Stressing already haha, but what are some things I should be doing right now to prepare for applying. I know you gave a few tips about working part time as a CNA, is there anything else that I should be doing ahead of time?

Just focusing on keeping a high GPA, that’s the biggest along with your PCE. You should try to get volunteer hours too, and try shadowing some PAs! Check out my video “the ultimate pre-pa checklist” 👍

Thank you so much for the video! I was planning on taking summer classes this summer, but I haven’t started working on my hours so I decided that I’ll work on them this summer over the summer classes! Which schools did you apply to if you don’t mind me asking? I appreciate all the videos! Thank you and God bless! 😊

Thank you so much! How many schools would you recommend that I apply to? And also if you don’t mind me asking, which school did you end up attending?
@DaywithaPA
@DaywithaPA 4 жыл бұрын
I went to UK. The average is around 7. I’d recommend at least that many. If you’re super competitive, you could get away with fewer and save some money, but it’s totally up to you. If you’re more of an average applicant, I’d recommend more programs to increase your chances.

These are all such good tips, thank you so much. Did you take any gap years between college and PA school? Or did you go straight through from college to PA school?
@DaywithaPA

I went straight into PA school! 10/10 recommend unless you're really burnt out on school.

Yes, I’ve heard of students using that as their PCE! You might want to call the programs you’re applying to and confirm that they’ll accept it.

Honest advice....I’m thinking about applying to only one school. It’s a school really close by that I’ve basically custom fit my stats for. I do fit into other schools in nearby states, but I haven’t taken the GRE and really don’t want to (the one I am planning on applying to doesn’t require it, those others do). I have a strong application, but I am stressed that I won’t be accepted. I just really don’t want to spend the time and money to study the GRE and apply to other schools if I end up being picked for this school anyways. Do you think it’s unwise to only apply to one?
@DaywithaPA
@DaywithaPA 4 жыл бұрын
Not totally. I had friends who only applied to UK and got accepted. You are taking a risk and if you’re ok with getting rejected and having to reapply, then by all means, go for it and apply to that program. If you think your stats are pretty competitive, that’s reassuring!

Hello! I was a pharm tech for 2.5 years, would that qualify for patient care or healthcare experience?
@_skyederrielle
@_skyederrielle 2 жыл бұрын
In most cases yes. Check the websites of the programs you are applying to or give them a call to confirm what they consider PCE.

Hey, thinking about pursuing either PA or NP. Haven't completed undergrad yet, however, I was wondering if military experience would do me well on an application? I'm currently in AIT to be a 68W combat medic in the national guard. Just want to get a head start on making myself stand out.
@DaywithaPA
@DaywithaPA 4 жыл бұрын
If you're going to become a medic, that would absolutely count as PCE and give you a leg up on the competition when applying to PA school!

How were you volunteer hours and shadowing hours? Did you have a lot? I almost every pre-req for PA school (including lots of PCE) except for those two. Is it important to have lots volunteer and shadowing hours?

Hi! I’m thinking of going to college for psychology and then applying to PA school. When would be a good time to start PCE, potentially as a CNA? I know you mentioned starting too late, so I wasn’t sure what time you’d recommend getting started with that. Thanks!
@DaywithaPA
@DaywithaPA 4 жыл бұрын
Great question. I'd try to start getting PCE no later than your Sophomore year of college. This would give you a good time line to work part time at your job and get a few thousand hours!

I love your content! If I’m looking like a very average applicant on paper, do you have any idea if me making meetings with program directors or being in contact with directors would help to show my interest and passion for specific schools? Unfortunately bombed my first couple semesters with the wake up call of college, so it hurt my overall GPA💔😂
@DaywithaPA
@DaywithaPA 4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks!! Unfortunately, program directions generally don’t have sit downs with prospective students. You can, however, reach out to those in admissions. Some may invite you to their campus to talk about your application and how you can strengthen it. I’d recommend taking part in open houses. Really express your interest to them during these. You can also ask if they’d be willing to sit down with you one on one. The good thing is that many programs will look at your GPA in your last year or so of school as well as your overall GPA. They understand that students may have a rough start initially, but if you’ve done very well as you’ve progressed through undergrad, it’ll help you!

Hey! Find a good study book (like magoosh), study for a month or so and hope you get above a 300! Many programs don’t have a minimum req, but a 300 is generally accepted as competitive. If you’re feeling iffy about it, allow yourself enough time for a retake in case you need to. I’d recommend taking it January of the year you’re applying to PA school for this reason. Hope this helps!

I have never worked with patients before, is it required for PA school? Can I talk about other work experiences I have had? Does medical scribing work?
@NapFroCentrics
@NapFroCentrics 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'll just go ahead and answer but yes it is required for PA school. Scribing works for a lot of schools but some schools do not take scribing as patient care experience :)
