The hearing on Microsoft's approval to acquire Activision Blizzard, which began last week in California, has proved to be an extremely valuable source of information on the past and future plans of the industry giants. The latest fruit of this was the confirmation that DayZ 2, a continuation of the hit online survival game, is in production. This information comes from Microsoft's internal correspondence, which has been attached to publicly available evidence. Bohemia Interactive is listed there as one of the studios that Microsoft is looking at in the context of a possible takeover. The studio description states that Bohemia Interactive is currently working on three projects - Arma Reforger, Arma 4 and DayZ 2.

I actually like how DayZ is not holding your hand when crafting. It's kinda awesome not to know all the mechanics of the game and discover them with time.
@nutbastard Жыл бұрын
Not just crafting, literally everything. No in game map, no minimap, no numbers on your stats, when you get sick it doesn't tell you what you have or what will cure it. No tutorial to tell you not to eat with bloody hands or bandage with unclean rags. You can look all that stuff up, sure, but in game? Nah, you're on the coast with a plum, a bandage, and a chemlight, and then it just chucks you in the deep end. You figure it out, or you don't. Items you could pick up don't glow. It's very oldschool in that way and as an older gamer, I'm all about it. It also provides a filter for the playerbase - A lot of younger and frankly toxic players try it out, starve to death a few times, and rage quit. Good. This is not a game for impatient people or those who don't want a challenge. PvP is maybe 5% of the game, and there's plenty of shooters. You survive in DayZ on knowledge and wits, and that's what the game brings to the table that almost no other game does. It's no wonder the most popular servers are "Helis Traders Weed 10x Loot Safezones Infinite Stamina $100k start ATMs" blah blah. Because little kids bought the game, still want to say they play DayZ, but they don't actually play DayZ.

I think I'm the only guy who wouldn't complain about the constant running... even if the new maps are insanely huge. For me, it's the whole reason I play the game. It adds to the immersion, and really helps the zen experience I play this game for. Nothing makes a large map larger, than slow travel. It also forces the player to explore more... which in DayZ is a good thing, because learning subtle terrain features can be a make-it or break-it for solo players.

Many casual gamers who play comfortable mainstream games complain about this and call it a "hiking/walking simulator" - but excatly that's what's nice about it. The sounds of the forests and fields. I love Nature in DayZ. I don't want polluted barren wastelands for an apocalypse. A Zombie apocalypse is a disaster that only affects us humans because we became too many on the planet. Nature continues to flourish like thousands of years ago.

fast travel makes open worlds in games unnecessary or makes the world feel very small. it's why i tend to avoid vehicles in dayz, if i can just safely pop from town to town gathering everything it sours the experience and makes it boring after a while. cars are basically godmode in vanilla dayz, just drive into a town, honk the horn, run over the zombies, town safe to loot without firing a shot.
@driverjamescopeland Жыл бұрын
@@berzerk1450 - my point EXACTLY. Have you seen the television series "Life After People"? Ya sure dayz is so great cuz it has a VoIP system and people like to role play … compared to the roadmaps we saw YEARS AGO the dayz we have now is a shadow of what it could have been . We’re missing : soft skills / careers , advanced cooking system , advanced medical system (surgery , long recovery times , specific tools and skills needed) , barricading system (and zombies attacking them) more vehicles including bikes boats aerial vehicles trains horses , dynamic roaming zombie hordes , enabling town electricity to use all amenities (instead of the only stupid PA systems that are available), multiple maps (for free liek the original dayz devs told us they would be , not as paid dlc). Overall I pity those that never got to see how high dayz was aiming with its ambition and feature list , but overall I’ve come to envy GenZers like yourselves that just found this game being crammed down your throats by all the big media companies trying to get Bohemia out of their hole . Dayz has died , and I’m sad to say that the devs let it happen . No more features unless we buy dayz 2 ? What a ripoff . We haven’t even gotten most of the content dayz 1 was promised .

I may have missed it, but I think they should also expand on base building and possibly being able to do renovations such as painting, creating a road/driveway, repair boats to go out and catch bigger fish, more types of vehicles, skill tree. One thing I would like to be able to do on consol is customize the billboard signs and put solar panels on the roof of a house to power all electrical items. Bulldozers to knock down a house that may be blocking your view of the beach sunset. A way for people to start businesses in a town they built up. All in all, that detailed level of living in an open world. DayZ 2 would have the potential to be up in the number with GTA 6 when it drops.

I have a theory that DayZ 2 will start out as a mod for Arma 4 and, as per usual, will be driven by the effort, time and money spent by modders and fans of the game... while Bohemia sits back and gauges the interest and waits until making a standalone version is a "sure thing" (and after they've got that initial Arma 4 sales) and they'll essentially convert Reforger over to become DayZ 2. Feels like it makes sense, cost-efficient and safe for Bohemia. Just a theory, though.

as a DayZ player for the last 7 years, on PC and Console(s). i can safely say, that as bad as the inventory system is on consoles it’s overall gameplay is incredible. graphically it’s pretty good, even on Series X graphics aren’t as good on optimized games as they are on PC. but, its frame rate is a solid 60 consistently unless there’s some crazy additions to the map. Xbox One does have lag spikes, frequently and it can be frustrating but if you look passed that it’s a great experience. i think a big problem with it is that most people don’t have the time to play games like this. i’m honestly surprised Rust sells so well considering keeping a base on there is a full time job. but these games take dozens of hours to learn, and then it takes hours to even find gear on official servers. community is becoming increasingly popular on consoles because while there’s no mods to download they do edit server files to make spawning with your friends easier, finding loot much faster, and making cars spawn much more frequently. PC will always be the goated system, it may cost an arm and a leg to get something that will handle everything you throw at it but that computer will last you 3x longer than a console will. it offers better frames, graphics, modding capabilities, and much more. but dayz on console overall is actually a great game, i hope it keeps up its player count. this game holds a special place in my heart and it will be a sad day when its put to rest. sorry for the paragraph, and good luck out there.

towards the end of the video you mentioned superzombies. i play on xbox right now and theres one server i play on cant remember the name but it has zombies wearing the full rag outfit that take mad damage like im talking a mag or two from the ump45 up close mad damage. it adds an interesting dynamic to clearing an area of zombies

The best thing about DayZ is seeing it grow over the years. It could of easily slipped into a cash grab but the devs listen to their players and refined it into a classic.

Dayz when it was ARMA2 was magic. I will never forget those shenanigans.

I think adding AI characters to the vanilla game is a BAD IDEA. While modded servers can certainly play around with using NPC's, I personally feel that it takes away from the beauty of real player interactions, which are what make DayZ such a unique game. Of all of the changes suggested in this video, most of which I agree with, I think this is the worst.

No, Stalker started influencing the world of pc gaming - Dayz picked up on that idea.

@BabyNades Real Virtuality goes back WAY further than ARMA2 or ARMA 1 even. It goes back to the start - Operation Flashpoint and maybe even Gravon may have some of it's hooks in RV.

I would like to see a version where you can earn XP or currency during your game life so you can buy equipment and build up loadouts to start with instead of having literally nothing on a respawn. Maybe even have a secure storage for loot that only you can access. Some of us love the game but have a life and we can't just farm loot for days at a time just to lose it all due to some nonsense like bugged out walls, wild animals with zero warning or most egregiously: Hackers. Which WILL be an issue in the game at times. Just a matter of when. Of course I also advocate to have the standard formula servers and call it Classic or Hardcore mode.

Good vid. One point though that wasn't referenced, Always Streams was talking about BI as a developer company, not the development team specifically. He praises the team working on it all the time and encourages people to watch their streams. He's said a few times he thinks the team working on it are fighting against the tied with limited support, which has become a little less harsh with rising player numbers. But BI loves ARMA, they don't love DayZ. Sumrak had to make Namalsk in his spare time, because BI would never have invested in anything like that. Realistically, the dev team have been exceeding their actual budget, which was originally just there for maintenance and occasional patches. Because DayZ was not released completed, it was broken, cars didnt work, glitches didnt stop, content was removed and so on and so on

"DayZ 2" implies that there is something connecting the two games, it's more likely that a reboot will happen with some cliché title like "DayZ Resurrected" or something like that.
