‼‼ This technique is only working when the sun is high in the sky. At sunrise or sunset, it's obvious where the west and the south are. If it's used at sunset or sunrise, it can give wrong results.

Next step, looking in the direction of the stick, fix your eyes on the Northern horizon. Look for an object, like a tall building, tall tree, etcetera. Memorize a similar tall object behind you. (TAKE THE STICK) Run to the tall tree in the North. When you arrive at it, look back to the object that was close back in the direction where you were. Lay your stick down again pointing at that Southern object. Now look back to the North, find another tall feature, maybe a hill or the tower on Green Mtn, something you can see and set as goal. (except that giant glow worm the devs just put in 1.24 .. that's supposed to be the Milky Way😆) Anyway just in case you haven't checked, the Big Dipper is also still there, pointing to the North Star ...and Orion rises in the south east and tilts slowly over till it is westerly. Totally agree! I would like the game to be much more complex in terms of survival. I would like the game to give you the opportunity to be creative (like Rust - electrycity, traps, ways to move on the map, ways to have fun when you're bored). In DayZ when you're fully equipped you're either looking for pvp or you're looking to raid some base, and that's all.@@BoneFromTheDale

Sorry but i must tell you that this is totally wrong. If you let the shadow to move for more time then the stick you joint the 2 points will be in a different angle, so the cross will show you a different north... To find north with this technic you must have the absolute E and W and then joint the points. It's simple trigonometry. I'm surprised all the people here cheers for this faulty video. And again, it's simple trigonometry. Your technic is based in a circle chord. Do you know how many chords a circle has and at how many different angles? And at last how many norths? The thing at the end you certify it with the compass is totally random and luck.

I saw your comment, and that made me test and think again. You are right, at different times of the day (especially sunrise or sunset), this technique will show you a false north. It works best when the sun is high in the sky. Sunrise and sunset are obvious, and you can tell where west and south are if the sun sets or rises. There are so many videos on the internet that show this technique, but no one says when it should be used. When I did the test it was 11:00 - 12:00 AM-PM, because of this I could show a true north. I messed it up a bit without realizing it and without explaining it in the clip. However, thank you for leaving this comment!
