Absolutely loved Jonathan Winters and found out he was from my town when I was a little kid; loved everything of his I could get my hands on. Later, I found out I was delivering the Springfield News-Sun to his mom's place on St. Paris Pike. She would give me lemonade once in a while. Many years later, I worked as an extra on "Flintstones" with Jonathan. He was a wonderful person and the funniest ever. I believe he is entertaining to a huge audience. THANKS SO MUCH JORDAN for a fantastic piece.

I was just a kid and therefore couldn’t stay up on a school night to watch the weekly Jonathan Winters comedy variety show on CBS. I did see him in “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World,” but was unfamiliar with him. At age 7 Laurel & Hardy, Jerry Lewis and The Three Stooges were my clowns of choice. When I was 12 Winters’ kid character, “Chester Honeyhugger” had a catchphrase that everyone in my Jr. High School repeated. And Winters’ portrayal of the immaculately white uniformed trash collector for Hefty brand bags had everyone mimicking his pronunciation for “gar-bahhj” And his appearances on Johnny Carson - Hilarious! I did not know that he had such a wretched childhood. Often the funniest comedians, Chaplin, Richard Pryor, Robin Williams spin their hardships into comedic gold. Thank you Jordan for another informative vlog.

My man!!!! That's my hometown, been in that house many times for too many funerals. Jonathan was a distant cousin of my grandfather. Did you get to see the little house behind it.? That Dream Cup is a tire shop now, we also have a funeral home that was once the private residence of Asa Bushnell before he became governor. We are also the home of Frostop Root Beer also, we have an old Frostop root beer stand on east high street going out toward our fairgrounds, the root beer mug is in our old marketplace which is now a local history museum. We are also the hometown of International Harvester, which used to make tractors and farm equipment, then they started making civilian, medium and heavy duty like suburban type trucks, Military trucks, semi trucks and ambulances. I've had 4 family members retire from there, the original Lagonda road plant was demolished a few years back, it hadn't been in use for years, at least since the 1960s when they built the new plant on 68 going toward Urbana which my great uncle retired from and where my little sister works at now.

Thanks for the details of Jonathan Winters life. I appreciate him even more now. I have a favorite Johnny Carson show moment where he and Robin Williams were exchanging dialogues with each other..two comedic geniuses in action bringing the house down in laughter. God bless them both. John Legend’s background story was also interesting. Can’t wait to see your next adventure.

I went to the same High School as Jonathan Winters. I've been to two funerals at his childhood home and had no idea that's where he grew up. My dad used to work with John Legends dad at Navistar(International Harvester). Also silent film actress Lillian Gish is from Springfield as well as actor Justin Chambers(Grey's Anatomy, The Wedding Planner). I used to go to church with his parent's. They sat in from of us and my mom met Justin at church when he was in town visiting his parent's. Another fun fact is that there is a house built by Frank Lloyd Wright here in Springfield also. I like that you put Super Dave's in your video. I used to stop there after work on the way home from the Ohio Masonic Home. Also I used to work at the Long John Silver's/A&W in this video too😃 I really enjoyed your video. Learned something new today🤓

Small world, I went to school with John Legend, but I knew him as Johnny Stephens. There's a restaurant a couple blocks north of the Littletons funeral home called Cecil & Lime, John's brother Vaughn pops in and sings with the piano playing owner from time to time. Vaughn is an incredible elementary school teacher, well known and loved around town. The whole Stephens family is absolutely wonderful

I enjoyed hearing about Jonathan Winters and I do remember as a kid watching Mork and Mindy. Jonathan Winters was great playing the son of Mork and Mindy as Mearth. He was a great comedian and he also appeared on the Johnny Carson Show. I did not mind hearing about John Legend, but the only song that I did not like that him and Kelly Clarkson did was rewriting a classic Christmas song called Baby It's Cold Outside because the younger generation felt the original song is not "Politically Correct." I still love the original version and have been listening to that since I was old enough to listen to music.

(1) 3:08 - That "Dream Cup Coffee Shop" must've been built as a Phillips 66 gas station. That was the corporate look for the 66s. (2) Winters's grandfather owned Dayton's Winters National Bank, which failed during the Depression. That must be the source of money which provided the mansion. Winters, while on Carson maybe among other places, tells stories of when he was a boy, his father was a failed insurance salesman or something, and while drunk ('Go mm-outside and mmplay... none of your business') sold the family farm.

He was a very good man! ⬇⬇⬇ Your vlog on John Legend was interesting! You would have thought that he would have checked his music before publishing it! You can possibly take a word or two from a song! Not the whole paragraph or lyrics, from a song! Other artist have been caught doing the same thing and are paying back Millions! Ok...My only experience with John Legend was when I worked at Budget Rental Car. A young guy walked in and I said hello. No response. I took his paper work and started processing it. My co worker kept looking over my shoulder and I was getting annoyed. She grabs a piece of paper and pen and asked for his autograph. He signed it. Never said a word. I just looked at him. He left. I asked her who he was. That's John Legend!!! My reaction. Who the hell is that??. A month later he appeared on Oprah. My reaction? Wow he actually talks. Lol. He was 26 at the time. Not into his music but I will remember that moment. Love Jonathan Winters. So sad his parents didn't love him. I hope he found some kind of peace with them at the end. Love seeing my buddy Jah!!

I really enjoyed this vlog and your too young to remember but I can remember television in the 1970s when Winters was seemingly on every variety show and every talk show and he was hilarious. The ability to go in and out of different characters was amazing. I would recommend to anyone look up on KZbin: Jonathan Winters Carson Tonight Show 1974 and you can see examples of his paintings and quick references to childhood etc. He was classic Winters, unpredictably funny. Thanks for the tour of his childhood home and some of his history because it fills in a lot of blanks of how he, became the entertainer.
