Another DreamWorks anniversary this week, this is DreamWorks' peak. And somehow being 20 years later, the effects of Shrek 2 are still being felt now. From pop culture impact, to IP endurance and of course the height of celebrity voice castings, this movie had a whole adventure to being made, and managed to still nail every aspect anyway. It is one of my favourite animated movies of all time. From directing, to writing and all sorts of adult jokes I only recognised later. I’d say it’s hard, but I guess “The Last Wish” would be one of them, mainly because of the whole theme around the literal and figurative aspects of Death, and that it actually had the guts to briefly show blood in one of the earlier scenes.

I love the fact that the movie doesnt talk down to its audience. Like, a lot of the jokes arent something a child would get, yet a child could still find them funny. An exsmple would be the police brutality joke they make at one point where the police are grinding some pepper into literally everyones’ eyes. For the kids it is a visually funny gag. They probably know pepper wouldnt be nice to get in your eyes, and the whole scene is just hilariously goofy. The adults/parents will understand the police officers have yet to invent peoperspray, so they are just using fresh grinded pepper.
