How Much Does It Cost To Keep A Tegu?

Thank you for doing this. This is exactly the thing I think most reptile videos leave out- they just label animals as “low cost” or “super expensive” but don’t give numbers. A tegu sounds roughly equivalent to the costs of one or two really large dogs, or several cats per month 😂 assuming you are buying good quality food, toys, scratching posts, dog houses, etc. There really is no such thing as a cheap pet, unless you get a marimo moss ball.

Zen habitats is now making extension kits. One can put 2 habitats together to get an 8ft enclosure.(might not be on the website, I talked to them on the phone recently when ordering.)

In Germany the electricity is so dang expensive that i am looking at about 33 Bucks for a 128 Watts total (ball pyton enclosure). So approx 25 per 100 watts. The adult enclosure for a tegu needs like what 350-400Watts? Depending on enclosure- size and climate in your place. So i personally would put aside at least 100 bucks aside for electricity a month, an 50 for food. So about the same amount we pay of for our car each month.

My tegu cost me £1000 to buy and set up properly..That's a custom built viverium UVB ..Basking bulb,thermostat.and geat radiator She now cost me very little..Shes still only a 8 months so still on high protein diet ..So chicken, fuzzies ,chicken hearts and various other meats ..She has started on small amounts of greens and fruits..Properly cost me £20 a month ..No don't free-roam ..Mine is out everyday for a few hrs but never faraway from her basking or UVB ..

Hey Dakota, Zen habitats are modular they just don't make anything that can be bigger than 8x2x2 YET. I hear you, how awesome would it be if they made a 4x4x4 and you could add another same size to it. Future marketing idea, i'd push for it if i was you.
