I bought a cbb tokay from you back in Aug 2022 and she’s massive now but extremely tamed out. She likes to hang out in my pockets and even fallen asleep with her on my lap and she was still there when I woke up. Probably was too cold elsewhere lol
@jahmymahemsley87144 ай бұрын
What methods did you use to tame her? Currently trying with mine by taking him out every day (he hates it) for 5 mins but i don't think we're making much progress 😅
@-._.-._.-Sully-._.-._.-4 ай бұрын
@@jahmymahemsley8714 I basically just got a pair of these nitrile cut resistant gloves so she could bite all she wants and would handle her for around 15-30min whether she was happy about it or not lol. She rather quickly realized that either I’m not a threat or that I’m immune to her bites. At first there didn’t seem like much improvement but all of a sudden she just flipped a switch and was chill. Even after she was tamed out I still occasionally use the gloves just to grab her out the cage because she’s sometimes a little feisty getting her out when she doesn’t realize it’s me. Once out in my hands she’s as tame as a bearded dragon so no need for the gloves at that point. TLDR: Buy a pair of “Milwaukee Large Red Nitrile Level 1 Cut Resistant Dipped Work Gloves” (~$5 at Home Depot) just to give yourself the confidence to not be afraid of the gek chomps. Handle for at least 10-15min and try to not restrict the gek if you can letting it crawl on your arms ‘n whatnot. May be slow at first but he’ll get there.

I agree. Tokays are not aggressive. They are defensive. Even tame tokays have boundaries that they just do not allow us to push sometimes. And that's ok.

Thanks so much for your videos! I just tamed my 9 month old CB Tokay tonight!! I did get bit and pooped on, but i did wear gloves lol! But i spent an hour holding and interacting with em and I think it realizes that I am not a threat! I was a bit nervous of handling, but my mindset changed when you said they are not aggressive, but defensive, keep doing the Lords work Dakotah! God bless

You are 100% right about it being like a switch that gets flipped. My Garchomp used to be super mean and bitey. She pooped, peed, bit and barked at me everytime I handled her until one day she didn't. Now she's the most chill Tokay I have.

They're native in my country. I saw ones that are longer than 12 inches with beautiful blue skin and bright orange spots. I save one juvenile this month. He's fiesty but weirdly follows me around the house now.

Tokay are a "must have" and my favorite species of gecko! They're so cute and full of personality, makes them even more rewarding when they tolerate your presence to outright calm no matter what. Planning to get one (for starts, will eventually get a second one) and have researched them for a long time now. Even have an enclosure on standby and ready to go. Looking forward to when I add one to the lair, don't care if it's a morph.

I breed skunk geckos and the parental thing is amazing. My older female is pretty territorial, so she doesn't cohab to test the "all babies or just theirs". I like that I can incubate eggs with my girls and not worry about babies getting eaten

I think im gonna get a tokay gecko rather than a giant day gecko. Tokay geckos are more simple to care for and by working hard at building trust together you can end up with a much more tame gecko than a day gecko would get despite the misconceptions about tokay behaviour. Essentially its hard work but its worth it. And in my opinion theyre prettier than day geckos
