In the first game you died out of altruism, trying to save someone who threw himself to death also being an alturist. Your colleagues probably thought you'd get away with it. In the second game you and Kate were alone.

It really depends on the situation, Mori might prevent you from using Pop goes the weasel and also consumes some time but in some cases it helps
