The Department of Basic Education is considering introducing mother-tongue languages as a medium of instruction in order to improve outcomes in schools. At a recent engagement, Minister Angie Motshekga said her department encourages pupils to learn through their home languages wherever it is feasible.
UNISA's Professor Zodwa Motsa Maikane weighs in.
