DBI Profile: Judge Greg Mathis says to find your talent

Judge Greg Mathis says most people in poverty experience hopelessness and despair, and the way to beat that is to find your own special talent, then work hard and compete.
He dropped out of high school, earned a GED® diploma, and got into college with help from a cousin. College didn't go well until he realized he wasn't good at math and science but he had a gift for liberal arts. He changed his focus to law, found his courses were a better fit for his talents, worked hard, got into law school, and launched a successful career. Very impressive guy. He showed that you CAN turn your life around, if you WANT to. You see how at first, he wasn't too interested in college, he didn't think he could do it. But when his cousin helped him, he got in, and saw he could do it. And yeah, he tried to help his former friends, who didn't care, and I'm sure there are a lot of people Mathis talks to that don't give a damn about what he says. The thing is it is up to the individual to turn his or her life around. You can help them, but they have to want it. They don't want it, you have to let them go. He is an inspiration and role model.
