Thanks for taking the time to share this. When I was in a rush to cover my deck boat I created a ridgeline to support the tarp but the tarp sagged in the rain and collected water at the bottom, as usually happens with this setup. I was searching for simple ideas to create a frame, and yours ought to do the trick! In some spots I won't have anything to grip onto with the modified T, but I think I can also keep the bow shape in the pipe by just stringing it like a long bow with the top of the arch over the ridgeline.

I really enjoyed your natural environment, Showing that you’re just the average person trying to do something to help someone else. That is fantastic!! For the not so wonderful comments, I’m sorry you got those. I do agree that the PVC may warp and harsh sun conditions. I do agree that there should be a back bone. I learned from another video that if you used a slightly larger four-way in the center of each of your arches you can make a back bone very easily. I am not talking from experience because I too was looking at your video to do something for my dad’s very old Mirro craft boat that was easily disassembled each season and didn’t take up too much room after disassembly. Thank you and Wonder girl for some great ideas. Oh the other thing they had done was just make a v shape that sat on some of the interior surfaces that did not need to be cut. Brainstorming is how things get done and improvement are made. GREAT VIDEO!!!

Yeah I've gotten used to some comments. Ha it has become normal. Yeah they did warp some after some time in the texas sun. I took some rope and tied it to each pole and attached a carbiner at each end and pulled it tight and it created a backbone and worked just fine. Thanks Christine I appreciate it

Going on a rowing boat trip. With a tarp/fly sheet this set up could allow camping/sleeping on the boat instead of in a tent. Thanks for the idea.

That is a good idea. It sure could instead of being on the ground and having to set up a tent. Good luck with it bud

First thought: Can't wait to give this a shot. My boat sits at a dock all summer, so a lot of the DIY cover support methods I've seen end up either not working or are just too unwieldy. Cutting the PVC tees is a stroke of genius. Thank you! Second thought: Don't take this the wrong way, but your teeth are unsettlingly white. I mean, they are brighter than the PVC. Are they veneers? Dental hygiene is important, but it beggars belief that such results come from brushing twice a day. Third thought: Man, KZbin commenters are weird.

Tie a ridge line down the center. Anchor it to the bow and stern. With a sewing machine and snap buttons(running along the boat rail), you can turn that tarp into a tent. Or front half boat tent For boat camping!.
@TBassFactory3 жыл бұрын
That’s an awesome idea. I actually ended up taking rope and tie to each pole at the top and then pulling tight on front and back with caribiners. I like your tarp idea.
@mo-reesespieces90662 жыл бұрын
I love that idea. Are any diagonal supports needed for wind or anything to keep it from collapsing or shifting or will the ridge line you noted do that? I was thinking of a sun shade or rain shade over the area to operate the motor. And tent, boat camping. Peace, Mo

Always wear glasses cutting like that. If you use the right glue, no need for screws. Another point, if you ram 1” pipe down the sides, you could make a 1 piece cover that’s 2 seconds to put on. Good job. Doing my boat tomorrow but way to lazy to film it. Cheers

Nice! I think it will work for rain, but i don’t think this would last a northern winter with snow.

Not sure, I bet a big snow could overload it.

As long as the snow slides off, all OK. I live in snow country and it works - need to run a center pole, line etc to keep the poles spaced.

Perfectly done if your on a budget. 5 or 600 is a lot for a decent cover but this is what I was thinking about doing. You going to put something going down the center for a little more reinforcement?
@TBassFactory Жыл бұрын
Yes I added a string and tied them off and bungeed to the front of the boat to pull tight! Thanks bud!
@donpatterson49733 жыл бұрын
To make a removable side rail use 2 t's glued together in a cross using a 1 inch piece of pvc to connect the t's the outer T will use smaller pvc rods to connect between the arches. now where the arches need to be connected cut out part of the pvc so that it will snap over the arch. this way you can collapse to a smaller size for storage when not in use. looking good so far.

I built a similar frame out of schedule 40 PVC and the Texas summer heat actually warped the fittings and pipe to the point they were no longer functional. Maybe use schedule 80? I might try old fashioned wood
@TBassFactory3 жыл бұрын
Yeah sch 80 might work but the texas heat is brutal
@bongo004211 ай бұрын
This might work if you finish it. Those PVC's wont stay just wedged in like that! I'd like to see him pull a tarp over those without every one of them popping off, they arent even secured to the boat. I did something similar with my boat but my PVC's are connected horizontally and the ends of the PVC's are fixed to the boat, too lengthy to describe it here. If you're gonna document your project for youtube dont stop when its just partially done!

How do you keep the arches from falling over sideways?
@TBassFactory2 жыл бұрын
I got some long rope and looped it around each one and pulled it tight at the ends and attached carabiner clips then put a tarp over it and tied it tight.
@DBoothe59 Жыл бұрын
It would be sturdier if you ran another PVC rod down the center between each of the bows using 4 way connectors and Ts at each end,
@TBassFactory Жыл бұрын
Yes it would or pulled it tight with rope and tied it off on each end making a back bone. Thanks!
@g.r.48537 ай бұрын
Wouldn't a 4way make the pipe more rigid and prone to snapping?
@rwj1374 жыл бұрын
Looks good now but won't work if it were say a New England winter. The system isn't rigid enough. It needs a backbone!
@TBassFactory4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm sure there is a way to give it some more backbone, but it might be a good platform to start from. I havent test a big snowfall on one before.
@simeronhamby43544 жыл бұрын
Great idea but the pvc poles warp in the heat and can’t hold up their own weight much less a cover. Maybe ok if you live in a colder climate or find a better material than pvc
@TBassFactory3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they sure do over time. I noticed that they hold their form if you tie them all together and put a carrabiner on each end of the boat and pull it tight. Your probably right about being better in a colder climate.

I just bought a cover 900D thick for my bass tracker. Wondering how them rods will or will not wobble off when slipping the cover over the rods.
@TBassFactory4 жыл бұрын
The worked great but I ended up taking another 3 strips of pipe and drilled holes in them and zip tied making an actual frame and then there is absolutely no issue when pulling a tarp. I was able to pull up from the side but if you pull front to back they want to fall over.

I was waiting for the hilarity to start when you put the cover on. I bet every one those PVC ribs fell over, and even if you did manage to get the cover on, it would likely collapse in the first wind or snow storm. You a need longitudinal support (spine).
@TBassFactory3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it worked fine the first time I put the tarp on as I pulled it over the boat sideways, but after some texas sun it started to warp the pvc some and I attached a rope to each one and carabiner at each end, pulled it tight and it made a backbone and stayed like that for a couple months until some 100mph winds decided to come through. Thanks bud
@stevendefiori52623 жыл бұрын
It looks like one could come free and hit you in the mouth it is a start of a good inexpensive idea. To add to it... what you can do is harden the pvc arces. Make a template and bend the pvc into it, pour boiling water into the pvc
@TBassFactory3 жыл бұрын
Thats a good idea. I have used a heat gun to bend or form pvc in the past you just have to be careful of the fumes. I definitely had to watch out when I first bent them and put them into place.
@jamesharper8373 Жыл бұрын
I'm sure by now you see the need for a center beam
