I still think that Peters is the best player we've ever had, and that was so long after the World Cup in '66. I love to watch him in these old clips. The way he'd "ghost into the box" and score a back post header, and few people these days can score so often from glancing near-post headers.

Thanks for posting this - brings back wonderful memories - I was there as a teenager in the river end. I remember being impressed by Martin Peters and Jimmy Neighbour in this era (both bought from Spurs). We were an established top flight team from 72/73 to 94/95, with 20 of those 23 seasons in the top flight. OTBC!

Absolutely. It's a shame a section of the Norwich fans are happy to be a Championship team and do not harbour the ambitions that I grew up with.

I was at this game (in the small standing area at front of the 'south stand')...I think the previous season Liverpool won 1-0 at Carrow rd - with Fairclough scoring , after coming on as substitute (which he did quite often).

@mattshaw6674 - though relegated in '74 , '81, '85... but enjoyed those years & had some good league cup runs , when teams actually wanted to win domestic cups - instead of treating them like 'an unwanted distraction'....

very lucky to have seen alot of these games from river end or Barclay end the atmosphere for these games was always so electric people forget Norwich were a very attractive side to watch lovely passing football. Stadium today doesn't have the same buzz that raw emotion like many modern stadiums with the all seater it's a more sanitised experience.

I too was at this game, with my parents as an 18yo visiting Norwich (my home town). I still remember the crowd chanting, "Peters for England" when he scored our second goal.

I was there. Later having another claim to fame being on television for god knows. Nearly 30 40 years every Saturday night. Having been behind the goal Justin score against Liverpool. Different game then. Way tougher.Bless

77/78 League campaign was painful for LFC...runners-up by *SEVEN* points to Forest who were promoted in 3rd place from Div 2 the season before... Hughes, Smith, Callaghan nearing the end while Fairclough needed 3 chances per goal :-(

modern football has nothing on this I loved watching Norwich back in the day and a season ticket holder but football today really isn't worth the effort
