It's not that confusing. I mean "Bardock: The Father of Goku" was never canon (outside of the scene with him opposing Frieza and Frieza destroying Planet Vegeta), it was just a one off TV special that came out, but it was always well received so we fans kind of just accepted it as prequel lore. But DBS Broly, we know what's considered official now, although I kind of prefer classic Bardock...but I'm okay with the retconning. "Episode of Bardock" was just some weird shit that came out of left field, and everyone kind of just brushed it off and said "yeah okay, whatever", because it was so nonsensical and illogical....once again TFS takes that lack of understanding and puts a twist on it that actually makes it more acceptable.

Because of the scene at the end (not the brilliant scientist reference to the original ocean dub dialogue change where Vegeta claims goku’s fsther was a brilliant scientist who came up with the artificial moon). Compare Gohans hair to the timeline. It had to be either before freeza arrived on earth or before the androids arrive sometime after freeza dies.
