Honestly, the speech from Trump was pathetic. All he had to say is that the families will be supported and the matter will be investigated. Instead, he spend 38 of the 40 minutes blaming diversity (seriously?) and democrats. This was totally inappropriate

that's also the air traffic controller that's the title of their name to control air traffic they should of made the appropriate corrections and informed other flights in path that's their responsibility to know that stuff but also still very early in the investigation to draw conclusions have to wait and see what comes out to be honest there's lots of factors honestly. night vision goggles also take away your depth perception i know this from being in the Marines also depends in they lights on aircraft blinded them with the night vison as well.. there's very many factors.

OK, no you’re misinformed. This is DC helicopters fly in and out all of the time there are four tracks along the east side of the Potomac River, bordering Maryland. Elevation requirements by FAA and DOD is 200 feet along those corridors. You heard the secretary today say there was an elevation problem. DC this is not typical airspace. I live here you see helicopters flying low all the time. 400 feet is in the wrong track and you shouldn’t have been there. This is clearly the helicopter pilots mistake

Pilots are saying in most countries outside the US, you wouldn't have helicopter and commercial aircrafts on different frequencies precisely because they cant hear each other. Also you wouldn't have helicopters cutting across take off/landing points like this, precisely in case this happens and also with sheer amount of helicopters - military/civilian its a miracle this hasn't happened before and a testament to the pilots flying. Seems like some bright spark thought this was a good idea and American lives are played with fast loose as per usual. God almighty....

Trump froze ATC? What does this even mean? Lol You mean the 90 day hiring freeze? That didn't apply to national security which the faa states in their own website, is part of. The ATC had workers there last night who have likely been working there for more than the 2 wks orange man has been president. This didn't change anything. The aviation board you're speaking of doesn't change anything about the crash either. The board was a group of individuals who were getting money to supposedly assess safety....you don't need that when the faa and ntsb does that very same thing 🤡

How on earth can any Trump supporter defend him at this point? Seriously, you're telling me you stand behind a man who just claimed-on national TV, no less-that Obama’s administration caused a plane crash? Think about that for a moment. He is literally blaming a past administration, years removed, for a tragic incident that happened under his own watch. This isn't just absurd; it’s an insult to reason, logic, and accountability. How can anyone justify supporting a leader who uses baseless excuses to dodge responsibility for something so serious? I’m repeating myself because I cannot wrap my head around how anyone can look at this level of deflection and still call him their leader. This is beyond politics-it's a complete abandonment of rational thought.

In most other developed (and probably non developed) countries, yes, military aircraft have their own internal frequency, but when they enter certain airspace they switch to commercial aircraft frequency. So they can HEAR each other and whats going on around them. Also in most other countries you wouldn't have helicopters crossing the path of commercial aircraft take off/landing points in case this exact thing happened. People in charge there need to get their fingers out and get on with doing the right thing.

The recordings from the tower show that the helicopter pilot chose to stay visual control which means under rules, they take full responsibility for keeping clear of other traffic, not the ATC. The air traffic controller was concerned and asked the helicopter could they see the aircraft (that they collided with) and they said yes. So ATC told them to go behind. However, it seems possible the copter saw the aircraft coming in to land behind the one they hit. The blame game against ATC is not reasonable since the helicopter pilot chose to broadcast they were going visual, taking control away from ATC.

I disagree in that ATC looking at radar can see the whole picture. The radar showed it was going to be a near miss if lucky. Normal see and avoid never have the flight following aircraft just avoid by a margin of 100ft at 90 degree angle any same attitude. If helo really was looking at the correct plane they would have hovered or let it fly past with a mile gap. And they would not want to pass thru a jets wake turbulence. The controller knew something was very wrong 30 seconds before the crash.

Who the HELL authorized HELO's to "dart" across airline lanes of traffic?? That's "standard procedure" ?? I pray and hope they get to the bottom of what happened, and find the truth and then report the truth. There has been many accidents over the past few years and nothing is ever found out about them, im hoping this time they dig and investigate for truth, and yall turn and report the TRUTH, no matter what that may be, it could be dei, or someone having no business being in that position, we just dont know, plz find the truth this time around. To everyone involved, im truly sorry, my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to each and everyone of you. ❤😢

The helicopter said he had the CRJ in sight. The question is did he have the correct CRJ in sight? At night you can’t tell what kind of airplane you are seeing. All you see is a set of lights. Also if you are looking for traffic below you over a large metropolitan area the traffic you are looking for gets lost in the sea of lights.

Don’t they have co-ordinates to go by? Line of sight seems so primitive in this age of technology! I just don’t get it. And why does it take over a year to finish an investigation?
@timothypropst238
@timothypropst238 7 күн бұрын
@ the great majority of these routes are VFR (visual routes). When the helicopter said he had the CRJ in site the controller is not going to issue traffic anymore. Airplanes generally don’t hit other airplanes that they see. That’s what made me think the helicopter was looking at another aircraft and not the closest aircraft. The reason it takes so long is because it’s the government.

Excellent comment. It's useless for a controller to ask a pilot to identify a jet make and type at night. As you point out all one sees are landing lights. You can't tell a Airbus from a 737 etc a night from 2 miles away.

Military typically does not share radio frequencies with air traffic controllers. Commercial aircraft can not hear the military side of things. You would think in controlled airport airspace everyone could hear everyone else including military on same frequency . At night with All the background lights difficult to access speeds, direction, and altitude of other aircraft. The commercial aircraft was perfectly set up to land. The helicopter was told to stay behind the jet when Crossing the River. Radar on Pilot Blog channel shows converging aircraft with No notices of separation by ATC. TCAS will slight give indications below 1000 ft but No verbal up/down. Vas aviations offers audio. Commercial pilots busy especially with a circle to approach/side step runway landing. The FO on the right seat would have difficulty seeing the helicopter. Helicopter flying VFR, visual separation from other aircraft.

Thought the same thing about the ATC, including the TCAS part. It just looks in the video like the chopper was looking at another flight and missed the city hopper in front of them. Also looked like not enough light to be flying visually.

I will say, if they had any evidence that exonerated the heli from wrongdoing, the military probably would’ve already released it. But my guess is that since the NTSB already has spatial data from the crash via radar, an additional eyewitness account wouldn’t provide much. That, or they just didn’t see it.

ATC with radar basically watched that chopper fly right into the path of that airliner. Trying to defend the ATC by saying, they asked the chopper to maintain visual separation, is a joke. That ATC is responsible for that airspace, they are the ones directing traffic, not asking the traffic to take it upon themselves.
@Ronald-ut6eb

The aircraft were supposed to be staggered in altitude. The chopper was supposed to be at 200 feet and the plane was supposed to be closer to 400. From radar view, the crafts would have been in the same path, but at different heights. For some reason, the chopper was higher than it should have been, and the crash happened at 400 ft. This is on the helicopter pilots. Also, there was only one ATC in a position and time where there should have been two, but it is not known if that was the cause.

Well said. THIS IS ALL on ATC. They saw radar. They saw the collision course 1 min prior and alt of both aircraft. They saw HELO was about to do a blue angel type near miss and BELIEVED THEIR EARS AND NOT THEIR RADAR.

Long ago I witnessed another military helicopter crash in the Pacific region. I don't know the details of the crash, but I saw the aftermath: 4 or 5 burnt parachute bags. After the rescuers opened the bags, they found that the parachutes were in good condition, the parachute silk (white) was in good condition, even perfect, I saw for myself that there were no traces of flame, and the parachutes were ready for the pilots to use for ejection, but the pilots did not use them or were unable to use them.
