DEI in Germany would always mean the hire is still merit based but e.g. disabled people get an advantage if they have the same qualification/ merit/ performance during the job interview. For a highly challenging position with a high safety risk (such as flight control, pilots) even with DEI in place you would always hire the healthiest and most resilient person best suited for the job! Helicopter pilot told to look for Jet at 9-11:00 and acknowledges he has visual. But, a jet was taking off at 2:00 and a jet was arriving above at 10;00. It’s unclear if he was mistaking departing for arriving, as his rotors went up into the arriving jet. Should not have been in the flight path.
