DC20 has exploded on kickstarter and The Dungeon Coach is everywhere! So great work Alan, love seeing the success. So this week we reminisce on our time with DC20 and the fun we have had so far with the system.

Can You help me out. I backed and i am too a Long time patron of DC. From my point of view, the early backers could back the PDF (cheapiest version of backing the peoduct) and get a free hardbook too? I backed the hardbook version for 65$, and i felt i could have backed the cheapier version (PDF) and get the hardbook for free?? Thabks for your time.

DC20 will lend itself to "narrative" gameplay. The rules for the other two pillars will encourage the same sort of fun, meaningful choices, and creativity that people are experiencing with the combat pillar. I don't know specifics, but I've been homebrewing along with Coach for years. His previous 5e kickstarter, Alkanders Almenac and other 5e homebrew gives great insight into what is important to Alan. Creativity, Intuitive play, teamwork, meaningful choices.

My wife and I made her a character and that in itself was really fun! Some of DC20 reminds me of Savage Worlds, which we love, but faster. I’m glad to see DC20 growing so well. It’s got serious chops and Coach seems super-nice.

@@RoleWise Great to hear! I've got several more years of TTRPG experience under my belt now and also looking to expatriate from 5e. DC20 Looks very promising, as well as another upcoming RPG called Nimble 5e. Not to add another game to your to-do list, but it is very fast-paced and streamlined take on the 5e style of RPG. I'm likely going to steal bits of both (plus a few others possibly) and create my own chimeric creation of a homebrew RPG!

@RoleWise It doesn't end at Heavy and Brutal ^^ After that there's Brutal +1, +2, +3 etc. which we've hit more than a couple of times - as well as an extra +2 on a natural 20.

That is correct! We should have explained that better as the five over rule keeps going. And good callout on the critical hits. I’m also a fan of the abilities that trigger off these heavy hits making for some truly epic damage. For example, the orcs brutal strikes or great weapon fighting for fighters :) Also thanks for stopping by and the comment! -Mike

Thank you for the show, I have certainly seen good things about DC20. It will not be one that I will be picking up as Heroic fantasy is not the sort of game I am running anymore, however what I think is so great about the TTRPG industry at the moment is that there are some great quality game designers and creators operating now supporting so many different expressions of the game. It is innovation and great design that keeps the hobby moving forward, unfortunately it feels like WOTC has lost sight of that and I am unsure if '5.Whatever' will change that.

Glad to hear the GMs perspective on DC20. It sounds like a blast to play, but realistically I'll be the one running it, so I've been wondering how people are managing all those actions across multiple monsters. What is y'all's method for handling this??

Mike here - Honestly, without a custom app, I've just been using check marks on graph paper and its worked well. Keeps it old school and flexible. I'm sure there will be more powerful trackers down the road, but this works well if you can't track all that in your head (I can't lol)

I am talking with the devs on discord to make movement a free action. Movement should not have a cost because that restricts freedom to move. What do you think?

U got 4ap and less op attacks. With MCP, u got ap to spare. There are many ways to get cheaper movement if that is what you want to build towards.

@@selthafour6948 I think movement is fine still being governed by the AP cost, it keeps things a bit tactical with movement and can manage theater of the mind a bit without people just running willy nilly everywhere. So far from what we've played I feel like there's enough AP to play with... It's interesting though and be something to try for sure. It is hard to run a campaign with it as only up to level 2 is available for now. I was thinking about switching my Drakkenheim campaign to it, but it will be better to stay with D&D. I have switched systems in campaigns, sometimes it works great, other times not. It really depends on how much characters change when remade in the other system.

Thanks for stopping by and we appreciate the comment! Hopefully the DC20 beta document will have some expansion on leveling up so we can maybe get a level or two in. And we agree converting campaigns/adventures can yield some pretty wild results. Some work really well and others definitely don’t fit. We actually just made a video sharing some thought from converting age of works between fantasy systems we’d be curious to hear your thoughts! -Mike

In my experience, conversion is best if it is not an equation, as most people seem to expect, but instead comparing what things mean in each system. Many people ask about what to do with Constitution when converting D&D to DC20. To be honest, most of the time I would ignore it, since people tend to get a higher Constitution score just to get more Hit Points.

@@grr-OUCH I think you're very correct about the constitution, and I guess we are lucky we started with DC20 characters and are mostly focused on converting stuff out of the adventure monsters and puzzles and stuff. Mike is doing a good job and trying to keep it one to one. I think for converting adventures its often better to just take ideas or concepts, but we're experimenting!
