This is my story , I was 8 years old living in East Los Angeles , I am Mexican American and my Father was a member of the puerto rican American legion , he took me to a picnic in 1970 , it was the congas that got me and I am now 58 and play all day long in my garage but I cant get anybody to appreciate my hard work work all these years

I grew up in East Oakland a Chicano. We used to listen to Salsa and Music from Colombia I got into Colombian folkloric music so much That now I play in a Afro Colombian Cumbia and Traditional Band. Like Poncho I was intrigued by Music of another Land in-spite of being this Mexican American kid from East Oakland.

"Mexicans can't play congas." LMFAO! Pura pendejada for the time. I learned my basics from Armando Peraza, Carlos Aldama and Louie Romero. Y soy Chicano tambien. LOL

Sorry, the only thing "latin" about this music is sometimes they sing in Spanish.
