My IP1E is still working great with the new LCD flex cable I installed. Using my HP laptop from around 2003 running XP and Movie Shaker I can extract the video using Firewire :) I also have the IP45E on its way from Japan but its the PAL version and english.

@@Raptor50aus I have never used Movie Shaker. I am using a modern laptop and the Pinnacle Movie Studio Box to provide the FireWire interface. And I can use modern software. Folks in 2003 complained about compatibility with the MPEG-2 but those days are long gone. All computers today can handle MPEG-2 with no issues. Usually I can’t see a difference in this comparisons but digital transfer did look better. A few digital artifacts but could be dirty heads during playback since this was done a month later.

@@WaybackRewind Yeah my modern desktop with a firewire card does not detect the IP1E but works fine with all my other Video 8 Handycams and MiniDV Handycams.

You have any advise for @digitalmediafan They are struggling with the software. Might be a Mac issue I'm not that familiar with Mac.

The digital transfer looks a lot better (no big surprise given it's DV format being transferred through DV cables). In particular, the colors are more accurate; there is more detail in shaded areas; interlaced combing is far less noticeable; the picture as a whole is sharper. If this is technically an interlaced video being shot at 29.97 fps, does that mean with a proper deinterlace that turns every field in to an individual frame, does that mean this could technically record at 59.94 fps, like a VHS Camcorder?
@WaybackRewind4 ай бұрын
@@angelfire2023 short answer yes. The camera shoots at 29.97 interlaced. My software basically just smashes the two fields together to get 29.97 progressive. A proper deinterlacing would turn every field into a full frame at 59.94 and would look noticeably better. But that requires software to do that which I don’t have. I need to do some research on deinterlacing software and do a comparison. This was my first ever microMV digital transfer and I think it looked a lot better. Very happy with how it turned out. Thanks for watching.

a different question: What song you used? Loved it

So nice to hear something nice about the music for a change. 😂 In acts I and II it was "Like That" by Anno Domini Beats. Act III was "Feel It All" by Mishegas. If you go to the description there is a link you can play the music. And thanks for watching.

Amazing. Love to see it. 2003 was such an interesting year for camcords especially between Panasonic and Sony. That same year panasonic had released the D-Snap SV-AV100 one of the pioneers in the camcorder market for tapeless SD card video recording and also used MPEG2! It was even smaller than the IP1. However it used proprietary SdCards. Good ol times of fun gadgets and companies one uping each other.

OK so I tried playmemories home and it doesn't work with me. Do I need any other software to get it to work with / detect my ip1e ?
@WaybackRewind3 ай бұрын
I had trouble installing it as well. It has to recognize a Sony camera before it will be installed. I had to try three different Sony cameras before it worked. I have no idea why. Any dv capture software should work, though. Keep trying, and eventually, it will work.

@@WaybackRewind Not with me. My previous reply got deleted for some reason. Sony Vegas pro11 is meant to work also but no go with me either. Did you have to install Pinnacle before playmemories would would work ? I presume later versions don't have support for firewire camcorders ?
@WaybackRewind3 ай бұрын
@@digitalmediafan I loaded the Pinnacle Studio software first because I figured there might be a driver in there that the Device needed. I don't know if that enabled the Playmemories or not. I did have to use three different Sony cameras before it even recognized that I was allowed to install it. And then It recognized that I was using a digital tape camera and opened the import from tape option. Either way I'm using the Pinnacle as the firewire input. Are you using a Mac, because not sure where your firewire support is coming from? I recommend getting the Pinnacle as it works with everything. I'm not getting commissions, I just like it.

@@WaybackRewind Yes I have windows 10 on a 2012 mac mini but I have osx also. Do later version of Pinnacle have firewire support ? If you look at techmoan's video he is using a combination of adapters for a USB C / thunderbolt connection and uses Sony Vegas Pro 11
@WaybackRewind3 ай бұрын
@digitalmediafan I forget exactly where, but later versions of Pinnacle dropped firewire support. The thunderbolt to firewire adapters work if you have thunderbolt. Many PCs do not, which is why I like the Pinnacle it converts firewire into regular ole USB. I'm pretty sure you have a driver issue. I would look for an end to end solution that is likely to work.
