Usually you would do a Light test as part of the Right engine start flow. I tend to do this following cycling of the bleed air rotary.

Thanks Requiem, superb as always. This is probably a daft question but why do you set altitude of 200ft for radar at an airfield, doesn't this give a false reading when in the pattern?
@RequiemsACTLАй бұрын
Hey Nathan, I've been out flying a trip but I'll see if I can find something on it when I get home as I need to check if I remember it right or not. 200ft radar alt won't be a problem in the pattern because you're flying higher than that and won't really rely on it unless you had to come back for an instrument approach or when rolling out wings level on short final. A "false" reading would only happen in a bank or if there was uneven terrain, but that would be known to you as a pilot so you would rely on barometric altitude (the normal altimeter) instead to maintain pattern altitude

Sorry if this is a stupid question...is it possible to put the work flows into kneeboard form?
@RequiemsACTL2 жыл бұрын
I can but it will take some time. I did make my F-5 flows into kneeboard format, but I wasn't sure how popular those were to use so I didn't include them for the Hornet.

@@RequiemsACTL Thanks for the response. Yeah I can't imagine it would be easy to make. Well I for one would use them. Thanks for all your efforts and great tutorials.

those pdfs are invaluable! Gonna print off all the checklists and work on the flows so i can glance at them and know the right procedures! No more forgetting to disarm the ejection seat after landing haha

Thanks! With practice you won't need the flows anymore, so these are there to help you learn the cockpit and get consistent practice in to the point you don't even think about it. This gives you more brain space to focus on other things while flying.

@RequiemsACTL2 жыл бұрын
No I didn't make kneeboards for the F18. I did them for the F-5 but didn't think much demand was there for that aspect so I didn't sink the extra time required to make them for the F18

Thanks Manu! Oddly enough I've had F16 and F14 (plus Spitfire and P51) flows completed for at least a year or two now... but I haven't made them public. Normally I like to accompany them with videos but I take my time with DCS content, so maybe I can focus on DCS exclusively for a while.

Flows are a nice concept for someone who doesn't have any flight time. Going back now and using your flows in hindsight would be very counter-productive for me, lol.
@RequiemsACTL Жыл бұрын
Yeah, believe me I understand it. When I was training on the 737 I had another new FO training with me, but he flew the 737 for a different airline and had to relearn flows the way the new airline wanted them done. He would have to keep catching himself stopping doing what he used to do lol Over time with practice you may not follow the flows you initially learned exactly, but you'll still get all the items completed.

Great video man! I have a question: why you said that it is necessary to set the T/O trim at 10° when the A/C gross weight is 45.000lb and up? I read in the NATOPS that all trim settings which are not 12° are improper trim settings that may be increase the takeoff roll and increase the lift-off speed. III-7-23 of the: info.publicintelligence.net/F18-ABCD-000.pdf I didn't find any 10° trim setting for the takeoff. Last questions: how did you calculate the CG to determine the lift-off speed and where did you find the 150kts speed for set the stick AFT of the neutral position? I am not criticizing you video, it is the best video i have ever seen about the F/A-18C Hornet on KZbin. I am doing this questions just for curiosity and to learn other about this plane! Regards, Talisman.
@RequiemsACTL2 жыл бұрын
No worries Talisman, I'm aware of that NATOPS manual. The T.O. trim comment and the calculations come from A1-F18AC-NFM-200 (11-34, 35) which is the manual containing various performance charts for the Hornet (using GE -400 engines and not -402 though). The 150kts aft of neutral is not a fixed speed for every situation, but is a speed where you're approaching the nosewheel lift off speed (which depends on your CG and takeoff weight). As long as you do it 10-15 kts prior to your estimated nosewheel lift off speed you won't have a problem. 150kts is just an easy round number in this case, with nosewheel lift off at 162kts, and takeoff speed at 173kts.
@talisman24432 жыл бұрын
@@RequiemsACTL I've seen the performance chart which represent GE-400 engines performance but i don't understand why there is not once representing the GE-402... So you've used the GE-400 engines performance chart and the calculations are not 100% exactly for the C model of the Hornet, but these are enough near to the GE-402 performance or will increase the lift off distance? Sorry for these questions but i am doing some videos about the F/A-18C Hornet on my YT channel using the NATOPS to explain some interesting things like real startup procedure (not 100% because we can't do the external check and other check not implemented in DCS) and i am approaching the takeoff tutorial and i want to do it as real as possible so i want to do the same procedure that a Hornet pilot do in every flight! Thanks for the response, your videos are really useful!
@RequiemsACTL2 жыл бұрын
The -402 has a bit more thrust but I don't think the differences in performance would be great enough to be concerned about from a flight sim perspective. I have had my videos reviewed by an ex-Hornet instructor pilot, so I know they're good enough for simmers :-)
